5. To learn of Mr Linh’s story is to understand
a little of the strength and drive of the
Vietnamese people.
Such were the rural roots of Linh’s
childhood he was even born in the shade
of a tea bush on a cool November
morning. He had a hardworking but idyllic
childhood minding his grandfather’s
buffalos and working in the rice elds.
However, he was curious about the world
and had ambitions of being a tour guide,
meeting people from other countries and
introducing them to the beautiful
landscapes and cultures of his beloved
Vietnam. Driven from an early age Linh
made his way to Hanoi to study tourism at
university and learn English, working in
restaurants and as a builder and welder to
fund his studies. These practical skills
were to prove invaluable when setting up
his homestay.
One vacation, to escape the hectic pace of
the city, Linh visited Ba Be National Park, a
huge lake in the north surrounded by
jungle and mountains which he realised
was an ideal unspoiled place to bring
visitors. He met his future wife there and
with the help of the local community and
his family he set about building a
traditional Tay stilt homestay on the shores
of the lake. This charming natural
homestay has proved an excellent hub for
visitors to Ba Be when enjoying trekking,
kayaking wonderful family atmosphere
and excellent meals made from local
produce are often the highlights of tourists’
Vietnam vacation.
Once the homestay was operating
successfully, Linh returned to Hanoi and
set up Mr Linh’s Adventures ofce in
Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
The business swiftly took off, with an ever
expanding young and enthusiastic yet
highly professional team believing in
Linh's vision as much as he did, and he
was soon offering tours to other parts of
Vietnam, adding more destinations each
year. Never did Linh forget his ideals of
showing people the authentic culture of
Vietnam whilst giving them a unique and
unforgettable trip often with a touch of
adventure. Less than 10 years on, Linh
and his amazing team were taking people
to the most remote areas, all over
Vietnam.
Trips abroad to International Trade Fairs
have once again fuelled Linh’s ambition
and he now has a network of colleagues
and partners all over Indochina.
Mr Linh’s Adventures is now recognised
as one of the foremost DMCs in Southeast
Asia, building an ever increasing
customer base.

18. Sapa is oriented to make the most of the spectacular views emerging on clear days; it overlooks a
plunging valley, with mountains towering above on all sides. Views are often subdued by thick mist
rolling across the peaks, but even when it's cloudy, local hill-tribe people ll the town with colour.
If you were expecting a quaint alpine town, recalibrate your expectations. Modern tourism development
has mushroomed haphazardly. Thanks to rarely enforced building-height restrictions, Sapa's skyline is
continually thrusting upwards.
But you're not here to hang out in town. This is northern Vietnam's premier trekking base, from where
hikers launch themselves into a surrounding countryside of cascading rice terraces and tiny hill-tribe
villages that seem a world apart. Once you've stepped out into the lush elds, you'll understand the
Sapa area's real charm.
