2. Maynard M. Kirpalani is an Associate Justice of the Superior Court of
Massachusetts, appointed in 2010 by Governor Deval Patrick.
Upon his appointment, the office of the governor said of him,
“Mr. Kirpalani is universally perceived by his colleagues, opposing counsel
and members of the judiciary as a consummate professional who is ethical,
intelligent, hard-working and balanced.”
Before his appointment to the bench, his experience in complex civil litigation
in Boston spanned more than three decades. As a lawyer, he was a prolific writer
and speaker for a host of legal and industry audiences. He was a seasoned trial
lawyer whose experience was respected and recognized by both his profession
and his clients. He began his career in 1978 at the firm of Parker Coulter Daley
& White, and later served as a partner at Peabody & Arnold. At the time of his
appointment, he was the senior partner in the Boston office of Wilson Elser
Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, one of the nation’s largest law firms.
Judge Kirpalani has also been the lead national defense counsel in many hard-
fought and complicated cases, including multi-jurisdictional pharmaceutical
and medical device litigation.
