DYE PENETRANT INSPECTION.
Dye penetrant inspection (DPI),also calledliquidpenetrant inspection (LPI) or penetrant
testing (PT), is a widelyapplied and low-cost inspection method usedto locatesurface-breaking
defects in all non-porousmaterials (metals,plastics, or ceramics). The penetrant may be applied to
all non- ferrous materials and ferrousmaterials. LPI is usedto detectcasting, forging and welding
surfacedefects such as cracks,surfaceporosities, and leaks in new products, and fatiguecrackson in-
service component
Magnetic Particle Testing:
It Involves Inducting magnetic field in the Ferromagnetic Material Covering the
surface in either dry or wet suspension of magnetic particles over the surface of the
part under testing. Any Surface or Subsurface Imperfection will cause flux leakage
and it will cause iron particle to gather around the flux leakage and form the
indication for evaluation and interpretation.
