1. A Day In The Life Of An Aspiring Pianist

2. Documentary Idea
My documentary idea is to follow a friend of
mine Lewis Peart and see why he is an
aspiring professional pianist and what he will
do to achieve his goals. Lewis has been
playing the piano for four years and has
already played as a concert pianist in front
of a huge audience.
3. My documentary will explore the extent
in which Lewis practices playing the
piano to become a professional pianist,
and interviews so that I am able to get
more in depth information about his
daily life and why he wants to become a
professional pianist.
Lewis attends Chethams school of music
in Manchester and is in his second year
learning how to progress as a pianist.
Chethams provides students with the
abilities to perform and improve their
skills as a musician to progress in the
music world and only accept the most
determined and best students due to
places being limited.

4. Brief History
-During the 14th century a a family of stringed instruments with a keyboard evolved in
Europe The earliest of these was a dulcimer, a closed, shallow box over which stretched
wires were struck with two wooden hammers. The dulcimer led to the development of the
clavichord, which also appeared in the 14th century. Then finally the harpsichord in the
15th century

-Then the first piano began in Padua, Italy in 1709, in the shop of a harpsichord maker
named Bartolomeo di Francesco Cristofori.

The graph above is summarized results from eight surveys I got
Males and females aged 30+ to fill in. From this I can see that
people that are aged 30+ are more inclined to watch this style of
documentary than the students as it is more appropriate to their
music taste.
7. Summary of audience research
From my audience research I found that people aged 30+ are more
inclined to watch this type of documentary due to the documentary
appealing more to an older audience as the piano appeals to their music
taste, whereas the students I asked would not want to watch this
documentary because the piano does not appeal to their music taste
due to them possibly listening to other forms of music where the piano
is not present.
The image above is a screenshot of the NRS Social Grade which as you can
the people that this documentary appeals most to is people who are in
the social grades A,B, and C1 which ranges from Middle class –Lower
middle class.
8. Conclusion
Overall I believe this would make a great documentary as it
would show insightful information about the life of a pianist
and what it takes to become a professional . It could also
inspire people to learn to play the piano or even listen to
some of the music created by the piano.
From my audience research I also found out that people
would be willing to watch this documentary if it was made
as there is people that have not seen a documentary that
has covered this type of subject before and would find
watching it very interesting.
