• To research the health care
discrimination impacts on sexual
minority groups.
• Youth in the Newark, NJ community
completed a survey about health care
discrimination.
• Participants were between the ages of 14
and 21 years old.
• Organizations that support sexual
minorities were contacted for additional
information on health care discrimination
• Youth in the Newark, NJ community
were given resources about organizations
and health care providers that support
sexual minorities in the northern New
Jersey region.
• Sexual minorities (those who identify as
anything other than straight) face
healthcare discrimination.
• 29.6% of participants answered “yes” to
different forms of health care
discrimination
• Participants reported being a victim or
knowing someone who was a victim of
healthcare discrimination
• Participants had to teach a healthcare provider
about transgender care.
• Participants had trouble themselves/ knew
someone who had trouble accessing health
insurance because of their orientation/ gender.
• Results generated by participants
demonstrated a need for sexual minority
education throughout the Newark, NJ
community.
• Through extensive workshops, emphasis
on sexual minority representation will be
incorporated to lesson plans
• Will research reliable health care facilities
to provide to youth.
