The Magazine Journalism and Writing class taught at Widener University was given a grant in spring 2014 to create promotion for
the city of Chester, PA. Though I was not part of the class, a professorrecommended my design work to the magazine’s creator,
and I was hired to design the magazine over the summer term. My work included:
Designing the inaugural issue of Chester Magazine for the city of Chester, city officials, and Widener University
Using InDesign software to create visually appealing spreads for readers using pictures and stories written & taken by
students
Working with a team of 5 writers and 2 senior designers on editing body copy and visual graphics to create final 28-page
mini magazine
Senior Capstone Project
Shriners Hospitalsfor Children -- Ambassadors for Love Program September 2014-April 2015
Completed as a senior Capstone project, a promotional ambassadorcampaign was created from scratch for Shriners Hospitals for
Children in Philadelphia. The program would enable past patients and community members to either stay involved or become
involved with the hospitaland its mission. Ambassadors for Love was developed to include multiple volunteers roles ranging from
executive board members, to pen pals, to college caregivers. Shriners hoped to continue relationships with past patients; the
program allowed for two-way communication both inside and outside of the hospital. An initiation event was also planned, and a
media kit designed,for Shriners to hold and utilize in the future. My responsibilities during development of the campaign
included:
Creating foundation of program, organizing ambassadorroles, and developing program systemof rewards
Designing program newsletter that would be sent to possible ambassador homes
Designing and editing promotional materials including: flyers, newsletter, postcard,and social media posts
Writing and editing media kit for event usage: newsletter, photo opportunity,and fundraising letter
