Cord compression MRI. When to give contrast MRI in patients with known tumour and what's the important sequence to perform that sometimes is not routinely done. In a patient with known malignancy who comes in for ? Cord compression, its not uncommon to see contrast not given if the initial screening scans demonstrate no evidence of extrinsic compression. However leptomeningeal spread which may be the cause of the patients symptoms may not be seen on non contrast scans. The images demonstrate leptomeningeal spread seen only on the contrast scans, and no extrinsic compression, in two patients who came in with a known breast carcinoma with a suspicion of cord compression. When do we give contrast and what's the most important sequence to perform.
