involves the passage of a small telescope, called
a ureteroscope,
Ureteroscopy is an examination of the upper urinary tract,
usually performed with a ureteroscope that is passed
through the urethra and the bladder, and then directly into

4. TYPES OF KIDNEY STONES
CALCIUM STONES: Most
kidney stones are calcium
stones, usually in the form of
calcium oxalate. Calcium
stones may also occur in the
form of calcium phosphate.
STRUVITE STONES: Are in
the form in response to a
urinary tract infection. These
stones can grow quickly and
become quite large.
URIC ACID STONES: Can
form in people who lose too
much fluid. Certain genetic
factors also may increase
your risk of uric acid stones.
CYSTINE STONES: These
stones form in people with a
hereditary disorder that
causes the kidneys to
excrete too much of a
specific amino acid.

5. PURPOSE OF URETEROSCOPY
Ureteroscopy can treat stones located at any position in the ureter and kidney. Ureteroscopy allows the treatment of
stones that cannot be seen on an x-ray. Certain patients who cannot be treated with ESWL or PERC, such as those
who cannot safely stop taking blood thinners, women who are pregnant, and the morbidly obese, can be treated by
URETEROSCOPY.

and intense

reaches between the ureter and bladder, patient will
start to feel pain when urinate
Blood in the urine: Is a very common symptom. The
blood can be red, pink, or brown.
Cloudy or smelly urine: Cloudy or foul-smelling
urine could be a sign of an infection in the kidneys.

7. CAUSES OF KIDNEY STONES

Kidney stones often have no definite, single
cause, although several factors may increase
the risk.
Kidney stones form when your urine contains
more crystal-forming substances such as
calcium, oxalate and uric acid than the fluid in
your urine can dilute.
At the same time, your urine may lack
substances that prevent crystals from sticking
together, creating an ideal environment for
kidney stones to form.
8. DIAGNOSIS FOR URETEROSCOPY
Contact us at- care@hbgmedicalassistance.com ; Whatsapp/Mobile No.-+91-7506405503
BLOOD TESTING: Blood tests may reveal too much
calcium or uric acid in the blood. Blood test results help
monitor the health of the kidneys.
URINE TESTING: The 24-hour urine collection test may
show that you're excreting too many stone-forming
minerals or too few stone-preventing substances.
IMAGING: Imaging tests may show kidney stones in
your urinary tract.
CT SCAN: To diagnose kidney stones and identify their
size and location.
MRI: To provide detailed images of your kidneys,
bladder, and other internal organs.
9. PROCEDURE OF URETEROSCOPY

STEP 1: Anesthesia is given to a patient. Urologist will insert the tip of the ureteroscope into your urethra
(the tube through which urine passes out of the body).
STEP 2: Once the ureteroscope is in the bladder, Urologist releases a sterile solution through the tip of
the scope. This fills the bladder so its walls can be seen more clearly. Then doctor gently guides the scope
into a ureter.
STEP 3: It will take around 30 minutes for a doctor to observe the urinary tract. If a procedure is done to
remove or break a stone, or to take a tissue sample for a biopsy, the ureteroscopy may take longer.
STEP 4: A ureteroscopy that uses a laser to break up small kidney stones may take about 90 minutes. The
type of laser used with the ureteroscope is called a “Holmium laser.” A similar procedure uses a tiny
basket at the end of the scope to grab and remove a stone.
