3. WHAT IS A MENISCUS REPAIR?
Our knee joins the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone
(tibia). The smaller bone that runs alongside the tibia
(fibula) and the kneecap (patella) are the other bones that
make the knee joint.
Two C-shaped pieces of cartilage called the medial and
lateral menisci act as shock absorbers between the femur
and tibia.
Meniscus Repair is an operation to repair torn cartilage of
the knee. The torn meniscus is repaired by a variety of
minimally invasive techniques.
The sudden twisting or other movements that may arise
from sports (sprains and tears of soft tissue like ligaments)
and related injuries is caused by a meniscus tear.
Meniscal tears can also be caused by degenerative
conditions like osteoarthritis.

5. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS MENISCUS REPAIR?
Torn knee cartilage usually causes knee joint pain in the tear region and
swelling.
Pivoting movements such as squatting make this symptoms worse.
If a sufficiently large piece is lodged between the sides of the plate, the knee
may ‘lock’ and become unable to bend or extend completely.

7. TREATMENT FOR MENISCUS REPAIR
Meniscus tear treatment will depend on the size, type and loc
ation of cartilage. The doctor may have an MRI done.
He may use an arthroscopy which is a thin tool that has
camera and light at the end which allows doctors to see
inside the joints,
If the arthroscopy allows the surgeon to see the tear, he or she can
determine whether the tear can be repaired or whether the meniscus
should be removed.
Surgeon makes the incision and uses surgical
instruments to repair meniscus during arthroscopic
surgery.
It involves suturing back in place the torn edges and allowing the
meniscus to heal on its own.
8. TREATMENT FOR MENISCUS REPAIR
In most cases when part of the meniscus is
removed and the healthy tissue remains
intact a partial meniscectomy is necessary.
A partial meniscectomy is performed when
nonsurgical treatments have failed to
provide adequate pain relief.
But mostly repair is better than removing
the meniscus when the meniscus is in
good condition despite tear.
Using arthroscopic surgery, tears on the
outer edges of the meniscus, called a
peripheral meniscus-capsular tear, can be
repaired leaving the meniscus to cure.
