- RACGP developed and released AH16 statement which is a unit of the RACGP’s broader curriculum in 2016 Developed to assist training providers to create syllabi and educate GPs on how to work effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and communities Should be viewed as broad guidance and bridge to more detailed learning programs It seeks to identify the unique nature and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities and to define the foundation of essential attitudes, skills and knowledge required by all GPs to meet these needs Attainment of these specific competency based skills will enable GPs to work respectfully, in collaboration with and provide quality care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and when required, to advocate for individuals and their communities
- The RACGP and NACCHO have a strong history of working in partnership. Building on momentum from creation of third edition of the National Guide, and based on feedback from community representatives and health professionals we are working on “phase two” of the National Guide project, with support from the Department of Health.
- As a reminder, here is the National Guide and related resources, including lifecycle charts, a podcast series and other resources to support best practice preventive healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
