18. • Key health-related findings from the
2014-15 NATSISS
• Positive progress since the 2008 NATSISS in the
following areas:
• Better housing (less overcrowding)
• Lower rates of daily smoking & risky drinking
• Increased maternal health protective behaviours
• Lower rates of tooth and gum problems in kids
19. Adult health (15 years and over)
o 40% rated their health as very good or excellent,
down from 44% in 2008
o 65% reported a long term health condition
(diagnosed by doctor or nurse)
o Just under half (45%) said they experienced
disability, 8% having a profound or severe core
activity limitation
20. Child health (4 – 14 years)
o 13% had an eye or sight problem in
2014-15, up from 9% in 2008.
o 10% had an ear or hearing problem.
o 34% had teeth or gum problem in
2014-15, down from 39% in 2008.

had a birth mother who drank alcohol during
pregnancy, half the 2008 rate of 2 in 10
(20%).
• 58% of birth mothers took folate prior to, or

2008.
