Integration practice
“Ukrainian Women Club” – Project off the Foundation “Our Choice”
Name of PP project/initiative: Ukrainian Women’s’ Club
Type of PP: Project
Entity enacting the PP NGO - Foundation “Our Choice”
Target group / direct
beneficiaries
Women
Brief Description of PP (Max.
400 words)
The aim is an activation (civil, economic and social) and
integration with the host society of immigrant women from
Ukraine, working mainly as domestic help, care workers who live
in Warsaw and its surroundings. They have limited contact both
with the host society and with other immigrants.
They are provided with trainings, place for meetings and
integration within surrounding of Ukrainian migrants, possibility to
participate in study visits to other women’s organizations acting on
the local level.
In result of the project they have to form a group of trained and
active immigrant women, who will have a knowledge and
qualifications to continue actions directed to the vulnerable groups
of migrant women, to provide integration measures to them and to
establish clubs in other places.
Activities involved in the project:
1. Sunday meetings of migrant during which social meetings,
workshops, meetings with experts and trainings are organized.
Activities in the Club have open character; both Ukrainians and
Poles can participate. The experts invited to the Club provide
information on functioning in the host society and these are
psychologists, career advisors, representatives of police, lawyers.
2. Trainings for migrant-women
Trainings are designed in such way to provide women with
knowledge and skills on planning, work in group, usage of social
services like Facebook, organization of events, communication.
3. Study visits to Polish women’s organizations – Associations of
Village Women. There are women who are active in the rural area
of Poland and could serve as an example for Ukrainian migrant
women, who often come from rural areas of Ukraine. They could
use their example to further activity.
4. Events organized by migrant women. The skills and knowledge
women gained through the project they should apply in
organization of the public events directed both to other Ukrainian
migrants and to Polish society.
This project apart from mobilisation of migrant women aims at
change of the image of migrant women presented in Polish media
and vivid in the Polish society as only domestic worker. The idea is
that employment as domestic worker does not mean lack of other
qualifications. The establishment of the migrant women’s choir
“Kalyna” during implementation of the project supports this aim.
Funding Programme “Citizens for Democracy,” funded by the European
Economic Area Funds for the period of 1.05.2014-31.10.2015

Why do you consider this
Practice to be a PP?
Please refer to the criteria:
• Inclusiveness
• Accessibility
• Non-discrimination
• Expertise
• Resources
• Transferability
• Evaluation
Inclusiveness,
Project was designed in such a way that to provide migrant women
with possibility to design a programme of the Club, its activities,
and to organize events they propose.
Accessibility and Non-Discrimination:
Participation in the Club is free of cost. Although, the Club is
directed to Ukrainian migrant women, the participation of Polish
women or of other migrant groups is perceived as one of the main
integration tools. It is also open to men, who often participate and
support activities of the Club.
Expertise
Project is run by the Ukrainian migrant organization that has a
knowledge on migrants’ needs and long experience in work with
both with male and female migrants.
Transferability:
This Club exists in Warsaw, but such practice could be applicable
in other places and countries and by various social and ethnic
groups. Polish non-governmental organization Foundation
Education for Democracy runs project on establishing of women’s
clubs in Tajikistan.
Has this practice been
recognized as a PP elsewhere?
Project Ukrainian Women Club was presented in the Migration
Bulletin (#48) published by the Center for Migration Studies of the
Warsaw University.

Are there any criticisms/
limitations that you can
identify about the described
practice?
The practice is project based, thus, the termination of the financing
could cause termination of the activity of the Women Club. Since
migration of Ukrainians to Poland is rather temporary there could
be a problem with formation of the group of women who could lead
the Club farther and continue the integration and activation
activities.
