4. Alexandre de Berny
{ 1780-1845 }
Marc de Berny launched two collections:
Sparkx designed by Jean-Louis Deniot, & Munira designed by Francis Sultana.
These two collections celebrate the renaissance of the De Berny name, once a renowned furniture house at
Chateau de Berny in the 19th
century, which now as its own brand takes the stage in 2013 as Marc de Berny.
5. I created Marc de Berny in tribute to my maternal ancestors, cabinet makers of
renown, whose tradition thrived at the Château de Berny in Fresnes from the
18th
to the end of the 19th
century when a fire halted the legacy.
My passion for creating and manufacturing one of a kind pieces of furniture
has been growing up since I was spending summer holidays in my Grand-
father’s workshop who was a talented blacksmith and a designer of unique
pieces in forged and cast iron.
Rooted in legacy and history, Marc de Berny renews the great tradition of
craftsmen who made the worldwide impact of Europe in the 17th
and 18th
centuries: at the time there were no frontiers for creative work and the best
cabinet makers and manufacturers were recruited from all European coun-
tries on the basis of their talents and expertise.

7. MUNIRA & SPARKX
Collections
MUNIRA & SPARKX: Collections in Capitals
Jean-Louis Deniot and Francis Sultana: one from Paris and one from London, two histories, two
traditions, but both cosmopolitan, both young, talented and brilliant, spreading throughout
the world their inmost visions of interiors where elegance, chic, well-being and comfort
always respond to two demands: the spirit of places and the expectations of their inhabitants.
These collections build upon the tradition of the great 20th
century Interior Designer
Decorators using noble materials (lost-wax bronzes, brass, patent parchment, polished
lacquer-ware, “gouged wood”, hand-woven silks) and traditional assembling, but they intro-
duce here the use of modern techniques and components (resins, glass fibres, vacuum-cast
bronze, iron castings, glazes and brass cut by digital technology) in order to make possible
the expression of these luminous designs, both soft and radiant, which could not technically
have come into being a few decades ago.
Marc de Berny is proud to create a new body of work by these designers, young masters of
the Decorative Arts. The two collections bring together avant-garde variations and classical
reinterpretations.
The look and styling of these two new collections fuse the traditions of the past with the tech-
nology of the future for the look and spirit of the now.
8. The Munira collection consists of cabinetry, tables, upholstery, & lighting - as in Francis
Sultana’s past collections where bronze featured prominently, the designer has crafted a
new texture which comes up in all of the pieces. Cabinetry covered in parchment but
not in the classical sense; to give a contemporary edge to the parchment it is in a high
gloss that, paired with the chiselled wood and bronze, gives these pieces Francis Sultana’s
signature tailored styling.
When I thought of a furniture house in the true French style, my inspiration should be
that of the late 40s and 50s Paris style, even with a hint of the “style Afrique” as they
called it in Paris.
With the upholstered pieces for the presentation I have mixed classical linen with hand
woven African-inspired patterns.’
The pieces echo the elegance of the 1920s yet inspires memories of the 40s and 50s French
styling. Francis Sultana’s has created a truly sophisticated collection for Marc de Berny.

This collection has been designed by Jean-Louis Deniot to evoke a sunny, positive,
creative feeling throughout the line. An energic and enthusiastic collection including
seating, tables, lighting: a great variation of sunny, lively, playful and newness in silhou-
ettes.
Inspired by vintage architecture, the ‘Sparkx’ collection will suit chic environments and
worldly decors; the richness and effervescence of all finishes, with shiny brass, antique
bronze, high gloss lacquer, gold leaf over forged iron, smoked oak.
The ‘Sparkx’ collection represents the passion and high visions for creative and illuminated
interiors, manufactured by talented handcraft.
