RUNNERS PICK A SIDE OF HISTORY, RACE TO BENEFIT INDEPENDENCE PARK
WHO Friends of Independence National Historical Park is a 501(c)3 non-profit that supports
Independence National Historical Park, the national park that protects, preserves and
interprets Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the 54 plus historical acres located in
the City of Philadelphia.
WHAT Fourth Annual Philly Freedom 5K – Runners choose Patriot or Loyalist and race to
determine the victor.
WHEN 7:30 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015
WHERE 5th and Walnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Activities will be behind the Second
Bank of the United States building, along Walnut Street between 4th and 5th Streets.
The race starts in Washington Square at 6th and Walnut Streets
WHY How the race helps the park: Proceeds from this year’s run will go to the Law
Enforcement Bicycle Patrol Fund to purchase new bicycles and maintain the current
fleet for the Law Enforcement Bicycle Patrol.
Bicycles help law enforcement officers quickly travel around the 54 acre park to protect
and serve guests. The average law enforcement bike last 2-3 years before it needs to be
replaced. The goal for the Freedom 5 K Run is to provide more bikes to our rangers as
well as much needed equipment to help protect our park, as well as the 4 million visitors
who come to this park every year.
MORE Early Bird Registration (by Aug. 31, 2015) Runners (21 and over) $35, Student runners
(20 or younger) $20; After Sept. 1, 2015, Runners $40, Student runners $25
Volunteers Needed: There are lots of opportunities for volunteers on the day of the
race from being on the course, helping to give out water and even helping before the
race at our packet pickup days. If you are willing to help us make this race a success,
please register to be a volunteer. Someone will contact you with more information.
