Reasonfor Nomination: When I joined UCC in September of 2012 the UCC Cricket
Club was nearly nonexistent. Currently UCC Cricket Club is arguably one of the
strongest sides amongst Irish Universities. This has been down to the hard work and
commitment of our captain Mohammed. The dedication he has shown to the club has
been unbelievable. He will look after every detail and need of the club from making sure
we have the keys for our training hall, to spending days finding a convenient hotel for the
entire team to stay when we have a match outside Cork. This dedication has definitely
had a positive influence on the entire squad and it has shown in our recent results. Since
Mohammed was appointed captain in February 2013, we have reached the semi finals of
the 2013 Irish Outdoor Intervaristy Tournament, narrowly losing out to eventual
champions Queens University Belfast by 9 runs. This tournament took place about two
months after Mohammed was named captain, and to reach the semi finals of such a cup
with so little preparation just shows the spirit of the squad and that was all down to the
captain. Our biggest and most recent success was winning the Indoor Intervarsities in
January 2014. Considering its been less than a year since Mohammed was named captain
and when the club really kicked off, this has to be a massive achievement.

2. Furthermore, I remember a time when Mohammed had a broken hand and wasn’t able to
play in couple of our friendly fixtures. However in the days leading up to the matches he
would be the one organising the team, the equipment, transport etc. Although he could
not take part in the match he would always be at the game and show his passion for the
club, and that to me is a sign of a true leader.
Finally, I would like to say, I’m a very close friend of Mohammad’s and I know how
tough his job is, but I wouldn’t have anyone else for it as he is great at what he does.
