1. Energy Audit and its benefit in
Rupandehi
An energy audit is a procedure to identiff how energy
is being used in a facrlity and help identifi' practical and cosr
effective energy saving measures that will reduce energy use and
lower, operating costs. Energy audits typically produce energy
savings of 10 to 35
o/o,
depending on what energy saving measures
have akeady been under taken. Almost every facility building in
Rupandehi can add some energy efficient measures and save
energy costs,
The EnergyAudit would give a positive orientation to the
enefgy cost reduction, preventive maintenance and quality control
programs which are vital for production and utility activities, Audit

How energy can be saved ?
As shown ih the figure 3, direct consumption, a,lxtliary
consumption, and common consumption are independent parts
ofoverall energy consumption, Reducing any ofthese three types
of consumption would reduce overall energy consumption,
Auxiliary energy consumption energy-saving solutions :
equipment
program will help to keep focus on variations which occur in the
energy cos ts, av ulability and reliability of supply of energy.
Electricity is the most commonly used form of energy in
Rupandehi. If the use of this is managed corectly it can therefore
help many companies cut their energy consumption and costs,
Lighting systems, electric motors and drive systems, andheatingl
cooling systems are the three most commonly used energy
consuming systems across all industries, whether large or small.
Thus, similar energy-saving strategies can be applied to any size
business.

Direct enefgy consumption energy-saving solutions:
Reducing direct energy consumption is relatively
difficult. Generally, it can be done by reducing
temperature, pressure, speed and flow of the production
pfocess,
Conduct a systematic production process analysis.
Common energy-saving solutions:
Increase work efficiency
Reduce overtime if possible
Create awareness of energy-saving management

Figure 3 - How to save energy
Example:
Air compressor: In most of the factories, the power used for
producing compressed air is about 10-30 percent of the overall
power consumption. The figure 4 illustrates the total cost of
compressed ur over a 10 year period.
The cost of equipment purchase and maintenance is
only a sma.ll part of the total cost of a compressed air system, as
power costs are usually more than T5percent of the total cost.

Conclusion:
As Rupandehi district is the Industrial Hub of Nepal,
Energy audit will play a very important role for the efficient
utilization of energy in the industries. Industries can save 20-25
percent of energy costs if they adopt the energy audits for their
industries.
If you want to save energy cost or explore your energy saving
potential, adopt the energy audit for your industries.
