CHAPTER ONE
Africa, a continent of 54 countries and with great passion to develop.Last week, I saw an article
on the internet that says investors are afraid in investing in Africa, I laughed and I reflected my
mind back at Charles Robertson speech on ‘’Africa Rising’’. Below are my replies I sent to the
author;
1. According to World Bank Data, life expectance has increases and the HIV infection rates
and malaria are going down by 27% in Africa.
2. The Sub - Sahara debt has being reduced.
3. Investment in energy, telecom and shopping malls are good.
4. The young population rate is increasing with good education.
5. Africa is gaining more democratic countries than before.
6. Corruption is going down through investment in Africa.
7. Government budgets are getting stronger.
8. Our new topic is called ‘’AFRICA RISING’’ due to economy status, technology, household
incomes.
9. The Africa continent is giving its young generation the skill and ability to help build the
continent.
10. Above all we are boosting of good leadership in Africa.
So, come all investors and invest in Africa and you will not regret it. Come to Africa, invest.
‘’AFRICA RISING’’
LESSSON ONE (WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER)
By Mohamed Alpha
A childhoodfriendof mine name,FodayGbondohasbeingmymentorwhentalkingaboutpotential
leadersinAfrica.Ihave beenanexample of strugglingbutbecause Ihave someone thatispracticing
goodleadershipskillsasfaras I have readabout itfrom previousmodulo, mypainsare now beneath
me.Foday, has beingable tounderstandingmyproblemsandhe hasbeingtellingme tohave patience
and to do what’sright. He has thissense of motivatingpeople well andhe isaware of himself inorder
for himto adaptwell inanysituation. He wasour adviserat school forhisgood abilitytodecide whenit
comesof solvingminorcasesamongus. To me,Fodayhas alwaystriedto reach the needsof those in
needor the commoners,i.e.the unfortunatesintryingtosolve them.Inormallyadmirepeople with
abilitytolisten,honesty,integrityandtransparency.FodayGbondo,he ismySaloumTraore,Hassan
Shire,SansanClaude Hein, andGeoffreyWokuiraSSebanggala.Withthispeopleof goodleadership
skills,Ibelieve AFRICA canGROW.
LESSON TWO
DEFINITION OF GOODLEADERSHIP
I made mentiontomy friendFoday, whopracticesgoodleadershipjustbecause he alwaysreachthe
needsof the people thatare followingandalwaysletthemtocriticizedhim whetherif he isonthe right
track. Thislesson teachesusthatone shouldhave the five qualitiesasagood leadersuchas self
awareness,self regulation,motivation,empathyandsocial skill.If anyleaderreachesthese five qualities
thenhe/she mustapplymydefinitionaboutgoodleaderpersonally.Andalsoif Iam to considermy
friendFoday, asa good leaderitismainlybecause he possessesatleastthe five qualitiesof goodleader
on whichthislesson talksabout.A goodleadercanbe bornor can be trainedandAfrica,we needgood
leadersfordevelopment.
NKRUMAH LEADERSHIP
Dr. Nkrumah, the architectof Ghana independence.A goodleaderalwaystriestodeliversecurityof the
state and of the people withthe rule of law, goodeducation, healthservicesandaframe of work to
economicgrowthas his/herobjectives.Dr.Nkrumahfoughtforindependence of Ghanawhichhe thinks
for anynationto developthere mustbe independence first.ItiswiththatNkrumahworkswithfor
Ghana to be proud of as a gooddevelopingcountryandnotonlyGhana butAfricaas a whole. He
believedineducationwithnobarriers,eradicate povertythroughindustrializationtoimprove
agriculture inGhana andfor Africathat iswhyhe wasthinkingof pan Africa unity. But what sadme
mostbut himwas that he lacksthe abilitytounderstandthe emotionof otherpeopleonwhichhe
broughtup the ‘’ detentionwithnotrial’’onhispeople.Amponsah,his mainoppositionandhisfirst
victim.Dr.Nkrumah,wasa goodleaderbutAfricanleadersnow mustnotfollow the wrongdidof him
because he lacks‘’Empathy’’whichcanmark democracyto be harmed. We shouldlearntoadhere to
the voice of our people.
MR MANDELA AND GADDAFI
I regardeda greatleaderbyhow he/she candelivergoodthingstohispeople.Mr.Mandeladelivershis
countryto independence whichwithoutacountrycan be hard to develop. If aleaderinacountry can
provide goodeducation,electricity noproblem,housingfacilitiesforall,unemploymentpeople are
encouragedwhichcanpreventthemfromviolence,goodhealthandsanitationandmanymore basic
facilitieswhere giventocitizen, thiswasthe workof Mr. Gaddafi whoI calleda greatleader despite the
bad thingsbecause humanbeingwe are byno meansfullyperfect. Congratulationto Mandelaworkshe
didtogetherwithMr. Paul Kagame of Rwanda. These twomenwhere generationthree whocleanedup
the messof generationtwo(war,humanright abuse).
A greatleaderalwaystriedtosee hispeople are livingahappylife whichcanbe throughindependence
and theirbasicneedsof life are provided. If youwatchat SouthAfricanow,I want to be there due to
theirdevelopmentthroughthe foundation Mandelabuiltforthemwhichshowsthathe was a great
leader.Mr. Gaddafi wasmotivatinghispeopletowardsdevelopmentforinstance itishardto finda
Libyancitizenasa migrantin anothercountry.Thiswas as a resultthatthe Libyanwere notseekinghelp
anywhere butitisonlynowafterthe deathof Gaddafi,Libyaisnow ina trouble everydayincluding
(deathsandabuse of humanright) due to the absence of thisgreatleader.
If we alwayslookatthe negative aspectof people, thenwe cannevercall someoneasa greatperson.
Some goodthingsat timescome frombad actions.Take a lookat Mr. Nkrumahwhois regardedasthe
architectof Ghana’sindependenceanddevelopment.He introducedsome lawswhichwill enablehimto
carryout developmentpeacefullylike goodeducation,agriculture etc.Hislawswere againstfreedomsof
speechfromcitizensbecause he taughtthatthere mightbe people whowanttounderminehim.
‘’detentionwithouttrial’’,thatwasone of hislaw. It iswiththisactionof NkrumahthatGhana is on the
move to development. So,thiswasthe same actionsthatMr. Mandelaand Mr. Gaddafi tookwhichI
thinktheywere doingforthe developmentof theircountriesandAfricaatlarge. These late menare my
mentortakinga lookof the good thingstheydidinpromotingdevelopmentatall levels.Thanks.
Self awareness, self regulation, empathy, motivationandsocial skills. These qualitiesmustbe installed
inany great leader.Mr.Mandelawas creatingawarenessandmotivationtohispeople bylisteningto
theircries. He was proudof hiscolor(black).Mr. Gaddafi wasalso motivatingandlistenstothe needsof
hispeople andtriedtosolve themwiththe country’sresources. He tookthe powerbecause he sawthat
hispeople were suffering.Gaddafi,inmycountrywasdonatinghelplike infrastructure and
transportationtoeasyour transportationcrises.Itisby nomeanswe have to congratulate themfor
theirgoodworks, WE ARE NOT PERFECT. Thanks.

LESSON ONE
EDUCATION
We are all thinkingthatourclassroomsare intellectuallyactive placesforprogressive learning.
Environmentare highlyeffectiveandconducive tostudents - centeredlearning.Butwhatdoesthat
mean? The realityis, there isnosingle answerbecause teaching andlearningare awkwardtoconsider
as single eventsorindividual ‘’things’’.Thisisall abunch of rhetoricuntil we puton our white coatsand
studyit undermicroscope,atwhichpointabstractionslike curiosity,authenticity,self - knowledge,and
affectionwillbe hardto pindown.Sowe put togetherone take onthe characteristicsof a highly
effectiveclassroom.Theyactasa kindof criteriato measure yourownagainst - see if younotice
pattern.Ina classroomlearning,studentscanaskquestions- goodonesandthe role of curiositycanbe
studiedbutsuffice tosaythat if a learnerentersanylearningactivitywithlittle ornonatural curiosity,
prospectformeaningful interactionwithtexts,mediaandspecifictasksare bleak.Inclassrooms,of
formal learning- shouldcome fromvarietyof sources.Inclassrooms,ideasfromlessons,readingtests,
and projects - the fiberof formal learning - shouldcome fromvarietyof sources. If theyall come from
narrow silverthenyoucanmake huge sense foryourstudies.Inquiry - based,peertopeer,project,and
directinstructionall canbe foundinthe classroom.Classroomlearning‘’empties’’intoconnected

It’syour endof the dayand wenthome to relax asyou findyourlaptop.Youlogintoyour degree course

universitiesstudents?Yes,because if you’ve grownupalreadythenthere isnoneedgoingtothat

or are theygoingto raise theirfeesbecause more are findingalternativewaysof learning.
Learningisformof educationandcan be done whendrivenbyself - interest, self - initiatedandwhen
it’sallowedtohappenwhereverandwheneverthe intereststrikes.Learninghappensbestwhenthe

Professorsare highlystandardeducatedpeople andtheirpresencesare highlyinfluencedat

Typically,professorshave higherteachingloads,lowercompensation,littleinfluence andfew inany

Africa,we needall of these systeminoureducationformore ‘’RISING’’.Thanks.
LESSON TWO
EDUCATION TO EMPLOYMENT
My cousinwhostudiedasan ‘’Liberian’’atthe universityof SierraLeone can’tfindajobthree years
back. I checkedtoherissue andfoundout that; she doesnotknow the skillsthatsuitemployers, our
countrydoesnot have enoughinstitutionsforhersuit,eventhe availablevacantinstitutionscan’tpay
herenoughto care forherself andmostlythe institutionsthatcaneasilyhelphertoworkare mainly
basedon ‘’personality’’i.e.one needtohave someonetoclime youthere forhiringirrespectivetothe
degree youhave.Educationinmycountryand in Africaisgettinggoodbuttheyare workinginopposite
directionandwe needtoput a stopto that by creatingmore jobswithgoodincomeswhichcanimprove
economy,teachthemthe require skillsforemployers,stopthe personalityandtryto practice
agriculture whichcanreduce povertyandincrease industrialization. One caneducate tobe employedin
orderfor his/hersurvival whichcanmake Africato RISE.
LESSON TWO
WAYSOF LEARNING
Throughoutmyjuniorschool,Iwas all by myself atschool.Ididmy readings,assignmentsbymyself and
neveraskany of my friendsaquestionontopics.Iwas like doinggreatatmy readings, myassignments
where alsogoodbutnot much and whenitcomesintermsof askingquestionsthatIdidn’tknow, hmm,
a big problemforme because Iwas shyingandwiththatI was havingproblemwithmygrades.Ientered
my seniorhighschool withthisself habitof mine,soIdecidedtochange itthoughitwas goodbut for
me to have highergradesthistime round.I wasreadingbymyself butmyassignmentswhere donewith
my friendsandi.soI startedbuildingconfidence where myteachersandmyfriendsgotangrywithme
for askingtoomany questions.Butmyproblemwiththe educationIwashavingwasthat I lacked
practical lessons.Iam a science studentwhotalkedaboutchemicalsbutneversaw sodiumbefore.This
makesmygrades a bitloweronexternal exams. If myeducationistobe more standard, peer, self and
practical learninghave tobe installedinme.
LESSON THREE
WHOLE WORLD IS A CLASSROOM
Educationisa methodof learningskillswhichyoucanapplytoachieve yourgoals.Learningdoesnot
onlytake place ina close classroomlike inschoolsoruniversitieswhere yourlecturergivesyou
instruction, butitisa life time processwhichtakesplace anywhere yougoand at any time.If Iam to
readminingengineeringthenthe miningsitescanservesasa bestclassroomforme whichcan tell one
that practical learningisbetterthanactive listeningineducation.Throughthe discussionpanel withmy
variousapplicantsacrossAfricaconductedbyALU, I have learntsomuch ina sense thatmymodulus

throughmeetings, social meetsandmore cancontribute greatlyonone educationdue tothe fact its
buildconfidence inyouandto ask questionsanddebatingonanissue thatyour lecturercan’thave time
for.You can be educatedbylearninginschool,atyourenvironment,inthe streetsandwithpeople

OPPORTUNITYAND POTENTIAL
Freetown, the peninsulacapital of mycountry,SierraLeone, foundat the Westernregionbuildingmost

populatedcitywithasmall geographical land.Mostpart of the landin Freetowniscoverwithhillsand
mountainswhichhave make itbe lessbeautiful andaccommodationcrisisisathigherlevel.Freetown,a
citywhere business, educationandsocial life ishalf improve.Withthis, ithascause the rapidmigration
of people fromvillageswithonlyone landentrance. The attitudes of people towardsthe cityare very
poor.About1% of the populationoutof millionsare livingwithhousingwithgoodwaterandelectricity

But if Governmentistoaddressthisissue,theyshall turnFreetownasanadministrative cityandlocate

embarkon;
1. Accommodation - kroobay community - part of Freetownandthe unhealthiestplace onEarth

decentlow - cost constructionof housingandwithall the basicfacilitiesthatahouse should
have will be builtforworkers.Aboutathousandpeople canaccommodate there.Andthe
proposedcommercial cityshall accommodatesamillionspopulation.Thiscitymustbe
constructedwithaccessroads,universities,low costhousing,commercialcenters,business
centers,shoppingmolls,healthandsanitationcenters,goodrefuse disposal,carparks,good
waterand electricitysupply.
2. Transportation - if Freetownisleftasthe administrativecity,the populationwouldlesswhich
will lessthe burdenof transportation. There willbe nochange of transportationsystem, itisjust
Governmentshouldconstructmore goodroadson the hillsandmountainswithbusesavailable
intransportingworkers.Those usingthe seascanbe providedcommercialferriesandboatsfor
easymovementsof people acrossthe country.Effectivewalkingpathwaycanalsobe made.
3. Finally,Governmentmustensure thattheycollaborate withprivatesectorsinsecuringloans.
AlsoGovernmentandprivate sectorsmustensure thattheybringexpertise whocantrain
citizensonurbanplanningandexpertise thatcanbeautifycitiesnotjustbuildinghousing.The
Governmentmustensure thatthe policiesonlandtenure systemmustmake roomforpoor
people toacquire landsnotjustthe rich. Governmentmustensure thatconstructingcompanies
buildsustainable cities.
If these systemsare putin place, mycountrycan enjoyagood sustainableurbanizationsystem
where businesscanflowfrom villageswhichcansupportdevelopmentatall levels.Butwe the
people mustfirstacceptdevelopmentasaninternal agreement.Urbanizationcanserve asa
gatewayfordevelopmentif done inagoodmanner.
We are the nextgenerationandwe have the potential now todevelopAfricathroughgoodurbanization
because ita life time process.Investinginurbanizationthroughreal estate canserve asa gatewayfor
developmentinanycountry. But howcan we investinthis,we needtobringinurban landinstitution
whichcan developthe skillsof people towardsplanningurban,we have toencourage developersfrom
the World to investinreal estate inAfrica,we needtotrainpeople onhow tobeautifyurbanlandsand
lastlywe the people of Africamustpractice goodleadershipskills.Investinginreal estate inAfricacan
bringhuge returns(profits) whichinturncanimprove standardof livingandotherbasicfacilitiestothe
people andalsocan contribute tothe increase of an economyinAfricacontinent.
We the nextgenerationare goingtoensure sustainable urbanizationthroughinvestingonreal estate,
the rule of lawexistsatall level, the securityandone’srighttolandwill be upheldandthatpropertywill
not be destroyedbywaror civil unrest. We will furtherstrengthenthe environmentfordoingbusiness.
We will ensure thatwe all stayinWorldclass hotel, walkpastbeautiful retailsshopssellingeverything
and eatin fabulousrestaurantlikewhatMr. FRED saw in Paris. We will create stronginstitutions, uphold
the rule of lawand ensure thatAfricaisfinallyable toreachitsfull potential asacontinent. If thisis
done inAfricaby we the nextgeneration, thenthe workof Mr. Mandela,Nkrumah,Kagame,Nyerere
and Swanikerwillnotbe invainbut complimentedastheyaimedAfricatobe.
Africa,inthe past has beeninvolvewithineffective,corruptleaderswhohave causedcivilwar,human
rightsabusesandbeenreal destructiontoeconomicgrowths.Africacontinenthasproducesthree
generationsof leadersandeachgenerationhasleftadifferentlegacy.The firstgenerationwhowere
Mr. Kwane NkrumahandJuliusNyerere of GhanaandTanzania respectivelyinthe 1950’s.This
generationfreedthe continentfromcolonialismwhichwasgoodforthe continent. Generationstwo
were Mr. Mobutu Sese - Soko,Idi AminandSani Abachaof Zaire,Ugandaand Nigeriarespectively. They
broughtwar, corruptionandhumanright abusesinthe continent,shame onthem.Generationsthree
cleanedthe messof generationtwoandthese were Mr.Paul Kagame andNelsonMandelaof Rwanda
and SouthAfricarespectively,theywere goodleaders.The currentgenerationsare calledthe
‘’stabilizer’’because theyhave improvedmacroeconomicpoliciesandbecome more accountabletoour
people.
SPECIAL LOOKS AT URBANIZATIONIN AFRICA
Africaurbanizationismostlydone poorlyinmanycountriesinAfricathatiswhymanypeople inthe
citiesare livingwithinadequate housingandpoorlivingstandards. If urbanizationisdone well inAfrica,
theninvestorscanbringininvestment companieswhichcancreate jobopportunitiestoimprove the
livesof the people andcanstrengthenthe economyof Africa.OtherAfricacountriesneedtocopyand
paste whatMorocco and Rwandadidto improve urbanizationbyfirst, focusonbasicservicesnotjust
onlyhousingbutonbuildingsustainablecity.Secondly,alandtenure systemwasadoptedwhereeven
the poor can affordlands.Thirdly, the peopleandthe leadersacceptedthe factthattheyneedtoplana
sustainable cityforthe future notas whathappeninNigeriathoughwiththe helpof anexternal bodies
theycan’t acceptit mainlybecause of poorleadership.Goodurbanizationisagatewayto development
for Africa.
LESSON TWO
HOMOSEXUALITY
Homosexualityisanevil actaccordingto the holybooksbutnot a punishable crime insome areasand
punishable insome areasalsoaroundthe World.Butwhyis ita punishablecrime insome areassimply
because theysee itas an act that God isagainstand whenGod isagainstanythinginany place, itwill
not go downwell.InAfrica,we believethatitisa ‘’white manculture’’andwe are notto accept it
because if we dowe are goingto forgetour ownculture whilesotherAfricansare doingitwhichcan
leadto homophobicact. To me,homosexualityisan unbelievable actwhichtellsme thatpeople are not
believersof Godandwiththat conceptin the heartsand mindsof Africanswe will notlive inpeace.
Homosexualitycancause civil warthroughhomophobicactionsaswhatis happeninginSouthAfricabut
not onlyhomosexual cancause it.
So,if I’mto findsolutionstostopthisact as a leaderor not,I shall discourage the actby settingalaw
that isagainstit and if anyone iscaught shall fell the pinchof the law.Again,Ishall setalaw whichwill
forbidactionsrelatingtohomophobicactsandprovide more roomforunemploymentrate toreduce.
Finally,Ishall conducta sensitizationteamtotalktopeople aboutthe dangerof homosexual of
homophobiaactsandteach themthat theyshouldpractice theirownculture andtraditionsinthe best
mannerthat will promote peace anddevelopmentof the country.Thanks.
Homosexualityisnota newideatothe World,it came about fromancienttimesandGod destroyed
those people immediatelyasitwasstartedaccording to holybooks.Thistellsusthatitan act that
causeslossof livesandpropertiesinacountrythrough homophobicprocess.Ourleadershave to
practice good leadershipskillsinordertoprotectusfrom it.Leadershave to teachtheirpeople to
practice good religiousskillsasitisthe bestway to take indiscouragingpeople towardsit.Educate
people thathomosexual doesnotensure the continuityof humanrace andour populationrate will be
standstill whichdoesnotencourage developmentat all levels.Withthese, the mindsetof peoplewill be
convertedintogoodandno more homosexual orhomophobiaactsinAfricaand we shall grow
peacefully.
LESSON THREE
MO IBRAHIM COMPETITIONTO HELP OUR LEADERS
The Mo Ibrahimcompetitionistohelpourleaderstoworkgoodbut Africafailure have some about
largelyasa resultof frequentleadershipchange,lackof ideology,policyreversal andweakinstitutional
patterns.Ialso examine the leadershipselectionprocessinAfricawhichtakesthe impositionpattern
and that Africanleadershave frequentlycome totheirpositionlimitedexperience.Hence, the declinein
moral and disciplinecausedbybadpolicieserodedprofessionalstandards,ethicsandweakenedthe
systemof governance.ForAfricathe crisisof leadershipandgovernance inthe continent, thoseon
whomthe burdenof leadershipwill tall inthe future mustfullycomprehendtheirresponsibilities, duties
and obligation. We have toexpose andbe preparedtoforce the challengesof leadershipin developing
societybypracticinggoodleadershipskills.Since the longtermsalvationof developingcountries
dependsonthe qualityof itsfuture leaders.
Onlymaximumempathyforthe peoplecanbe relevanttothe qualitative movementof Africa.
Leadershipisone of the mostobservedandleastunderstoodphenomenaonearth.A call for a focus
leadershipandgovernanceistimely,importantandnodoubttopical,reflectingthe Worldwide thrust
towardpolitical andeconomicliberationiswhatthe MoIbrahimprice is aboutinAfrica.Most
constitutedgovernmentinAfricahave beenundergoingseriousanddeepeningpolitico - economic
crisis.These problemsgeneratedbypolitical,social andeconomicinstabilityandthe prevalenceof ethic,
communal andreligiouscrisiswhichhave bedeviledAfrica.Call ourattentiontothe problemsof
leadershipandgovernanceinthe continent.Africanleadersletsgoforthe Mo Ibrahimcompetitionby
fittingtothe criteria.
LESSON FOUR
HOW CANAFRICA DEVELOP?
Since the days of colonialism, westerncountrieshave alwayshadanobligationtosupportformer
colonial territoriesintermof development.Colonialgovernmentssetupsocial,political andeconomic
structures.Howeverafterindependence we were nottrainedhow tomanage anddevelopthe resources
we had. Theyhave injectedbillionsof dollarsfoundingonvariousdevelopmentprojects.Irrespectiveof
all this,Africanscountriesespeciallysub - SaharaAfrica,hasgottenevenworse.Corruptionand
mismanagementof publicfunds,assetsandresourcesisbecomingthe orderof the day.Thisreasonfor
thisispartly because we are justgivenresourceswhose value we donotknow because we donotwork
for them.Ashumans,we mostlylookafterwhatwe value, andwe mostlyvalue whatwe workhardfor.
AndI totallyagree tothis’’Africadoesnotneedanymore aidto develop, itneedsmoral supportand
guidance toharnessherresourcesto develop’’.Whatdoyousay aboutthis?Thanks.
HavinglivedinAfricaall mylifetime.The perceptionthatwesternaidtoAfricaisa pure humanitarian
gesture inbunkum.Oil companiesplunderingouroil resourcesincahootswithcorruptAfricansare well
known.Exploitationof ourminersbymiddlemenandthe electronicsindustryisanotherexample.Atthe
same time,Africansshouldstopwinchingaboutcolonial roleindrawnboundariesandforcedtribal
integration.Africa,we needtostandupon our ownlike whatGhana did.We needto use our Africa
expression‘’tofeedforourselveswithourownresources’’.
Also,Ithinkthat the bestoutside helpAfricacouldreceive isfromprofitable enterprisesrather than
themselves profitorganization.Thiswillencourage corporationwere tooutsource labortoworkAfrica
setup‘’factorytowns’’thatcan putlocalsto work andsoldthemneededgoodsandprovide affordable
housing.Thiswill alsoenable economicsthatcouldbe forall interestinglytohelpthe poorAfricans
communitiesistohave conditionalscholarships.Bygivenwe Africansscholarships aswhatALU isdoing,
it will helptoeducate the poorthatcan preventthemfromnon - developmental actsandcontributesto
the transformationandeffective socio - economicsolutionsinAfrica.Above all,myfellows’friends,
Africawe needtopractice goodleadershipskillsforusto developmore thanothercontinents.
LESSON FIVE
WHYIS AFRICAPOOR?
Africaispoor because we lackgoodinstitutionsinconductinggoodelections.Electionsforinstance,in
my countryare mostlydone badina waythat you can see the chairof the electionisonthe otherside
and can alsosee that candidatesare fuelingyouthstofighttheiropponentswhichcancause lose tolives
and propertiesthatcandisturbsdevelopmentprocessesandmigrationof peoplelikeinBurundi now.
Africaisalso poorbecause of the increase incorruptionrates.Itis inAfricayou can see that presidents
are holdingtheirpositioninoffice atmosttill death, bride inofficesif youwanttowork, bride in
schools,businesses,hospitalsandmore.Africa,we have forgetourculture andtraditionswhichmade us
to be Africansand we are busyingchasingthe culture of others.Intermsof religiouspractices,Ican say
that we are tryingbutwe needmore effortdue toour bad attitudes.Africa,we have all the resources
that enable ustoclimax developmentbutwhywe lackgoodtransportations,nojobs,poorhealthand
sanitation,pooragriculture etc.
Thisis all due to poorleadershipskills,Africawe canbecome developedthroughgoodleadership which
can provide usgoodeducation,agriculture,goodhealthandsanitationandotherbasicfacilities.Thanks.
The main fuel tothe povertyrate inAfricais corruptionandit isan act of poor leadership.Africanshave
forgottenwhere theycame fromthatwhytheyare not playinganygoodrole inAfrica.Africawe have
the potential fordevelopmentinawaythat we have good natural resourceslike landforagriculture,
riversforhydro, good andnextgenerationetc.butwhatwe needmostisthe practice of good
leadershipandthe contributionof citizensforthe bettermentof ourMAMA AFRICA.Thanks.
LESSON SIX
AFRICA CULTURE
It alwaysmake more sense whenone choose his/herownculture ortheirwill be noculture atall
especiallyinamulticultural societywhereitwill be more difficulttointermsof identity.Africans,we
needtoretainour culture as a defense againstracismandtoprovide usstabilityandindividualism. Our
culture isour identitybecause we grew upwithitanditis that culture of oursthat made us to be
Africans.Ourculture can provide usa communityof likemindedpeople.Adoptingsomeone else culture
that can bringdevelopmentisgoodbutforthat developmenttoholdwe needtoretainours.Leadersin
Africaneedtointroduce ourculture inschools,communitiesandinanysocial aspectswhichcan enable
us alsoto be good leadersinAfrica.Africans,w are blackandit’sbeautiful,it’sourculture.Thanks.
Our culture ispart of the inheritance ourgreatfathersleftforus andit’sthat whichcan tell others
where we came from.Withoutwe practicingour culture, thenwe canalwaysbe ruledbyothersbecause
we are usingtheirownculture.I’ma blackand I can neverchange itbecause italwaysremindsme that
I’mfrom Africa.Ilove my culture andwe all shoulddofor the risingof Africa.Thanks.
There isthisway of dressing,walking,talkingandbodyportioningthatmostAfricansare copyingnowas
theirculture whichare bad to the society.Forinstance, makingatrouser to reachyour thighs, bleaching
your body, talkinglike anAmerican, andwalkinglikeacat (cat walk),these are notour culture andit is
causingso manybad challengestothe youthsinAfricabecause inordertoaffordthose thingsyouneed
to spenda lotand if youcan’t affordthe money, yousteal or youthinknegativelytogetthe money.
Let’sstop practicingbadculture fromothersand let’stryto practice ours forthe developmentof
MAMA AFRICA.
LESSON SEVEN
HOW SOCIAL MEDIA CAN HELP TO AFRICA DEVELOPMENT
The role of social mediacontinuestobe useful inmobilizinganddrawingcitizenstobe focusedonissue
that are relevantandinprimingpublicopinionamongmanyAfricanstogetengage inthe political
processof governance anddemocratic. The massive boominthe online andwirelessdigital media
augmentstraditional media,namelyradio,newspapers,televisionandmagazines.Thisstudyexamines
whetherthe online andwirelessdigital mediahave aidedpolitical mobilizationinAfricamore thanthe
traditional mediainthe previousyears. The digital mediasuchascellularphoneshave penetrated
remote areasinmany Africastatesthat are in accessible tolocal media.ManyAfricansuse theirphones
to call in live radioand televisioncurrentaffairtalkshowstodiscusspoliticsandtodraw attentionto
socioeconomicissueof national concern.Social mediacanuse as a tool inAfricato capture and
distribute contentthatexposespoliticiansandsave bureaucratswhosimilar engage inshadydeals.
Africanswe needtouse more social mediaforthe developmentinAfrica.Thanks.
Social mediatoolsallowonline studentstoshare informationandbuildasense of communityalsoitalso
introducesstudentstoe learningaswhatwe are doingnow.Facultieswhoteachonlinecoursesare
more likelythanthose whodon’tuse social mediaforbothpersonal andprofessionalreasons.Social
mediacan contribute tothe developmentinAfricaif done wisely
Journalism, anact of passingoninformationtothe public.I’mgoingtolookat the whatjournalismhas
playedtowardsthe developmentof anation;
1. Education - journalismplaysanimportantrole inthe livesof pupilsorstudents.Forinstance,
throughlisteningtogoodnewsyourabilityinEnglishcanimprove,alsoyourabilityinlistening
can be good.Withthisthe educational systemcanbe improve whichcanencourage
development.
2. Agriculture - overthe lastweeks, there wasalandtakenaway bysomeone illegallyfromagroup
of farmers were inrice cultivationwascarriedonthe land. The farmerswere unable toreport
the matter to the authorities, soajournalistwentthere andhe wastoldaboutthe issue. The
journalistwentbackandmade the reportthrough the air to the authorities. Few daysafter, the
landwas givenbackto the farmersand cultivationstarted.Withthe actionof the journalist,
agriculture canbe improvedinthatareawhichincrease the standardof livingof people andthe
economy.
3. Democracy - howdo we knowabout whatishappeninginBurundi,the badleadershipact.How
can international communitieshelppeople inBurundi whenthere isnoupdatesonwhatis
goingon there.Tohelpstopthe bloodshedinthere,radiosare tobe freedforjournaliststogive
correct updatesonthe crisisin Burundi whichcanhelpinternationalcommunitiestorestore
peace and development.
If a countrycan boost of developmentthen, education, agriculture anddemocracyhasto be
made whichjournalismcanhelpinreachingthe people.Thanks.
Voice of the voiceless, that’sjournalism.Couple of daysago, there wasa fuel shortage inmy
countrywere people undergorandommovementdue tolackof transportation,electricityand
alsoit causesan increase of foodproductsandother products.Thiscan undermine
developmental processacrossacountry.Journalistsinterveneimmediately,reportsweremade
throughair, newspapers, internetaboutthe fuel shortage tothe central government.Itwasnot
easyat all for thembecause some were givenfalse newsandfew were giventhe accurate news
due to corruptionacts, butthe fact remainsthat the message reachesthe authorities.Withthe
interventionof the journalists, the authoritieswere able toresolve the problemasfastas they
can whichhave aidthe free movementof people, electricitysupplyandproductspriceshas
beingreducedforthe people.Allthese canaidtoa fastand sustainable developmentina
country.
Social livescanbe improvedthroughjournalism.Duringthe Ebolaoutbreak,cinemasandother
social centerswere closed.Game lovingfanswere bored,buthelpfullyjournalistsweregiven
updatesaboutgames.Againhelpfully,journalistswere doingsensitizationtopeople aboutthe
Ebolaviruson preventableways.Thishelpsusgreatly becausewe were notaware aboutthe
virus, sothisaction of sensitizingpeople aboutthe Ebolabythe journalistshelpstostopthe
spreadof the virus.Despite the negativesaspectof journalists, theyare the voice of the
voiceless.
LESSON EIGHT
HOW TO STOP XENOPHOBIA IN AFRICA
Xenophobiameans‘’fearof strangersorforeigners’’.It’sadifficultquestiontorespondtobecause
xenophobiaisessentiallybeneaththe surface.Eachcountryhasdifferentxenophobicroots,but
generallytheseviewsare catalyzedbyaninflux of immigrants.Manypoliticianshave linkedchangesin
the economywithanincrease inprejudicesandxenophobia.Insimpleterms,anexpensive industryand
economywill drawsimmigrantstothe cities, where asduringtimesof hardship anddeclining,
immigrantsare oftentargetedasthe cause of these problems, particularlyinthe case of racial over
employment.
In respecttopreventingxenophobia,leadershave limitednumbersof solutions;
1. Governmentpoliciestoimpose finesorsentencestoindividualsinxenophobicactivityhasbeen
discussedamongstanti - racismgroups. However, itisimpractical toassesand convictpeople of
theirbehaviorasitdirectlycontradictsfreedomof expression.
2. Governmentgroupsandcampaignsmustbe put inplace to try and preventxenophobiaand
alloweasierassimilation.
3. Xenophobiaisusuallycausedbyanintense negative experience fromyourpast.Butyour mind
can alsocreate that fearseeminglywithoutbasis.Leadersshouldnottake advantage of their
past.
LeadersinSouthAfricashouldpractice goodleadershipskillsandtalktotheircitizensaboutthe
negative aspectof xenophobia.Citizensof SouthAfrica,we are all Africans.Thanks.
Xenophobiaaffectsatouristinthe way that because if you’re atourist, youcannotgo to public
for youare afraidof strangers.Discriminatingagainstanygroupof people makesusall lostout,
it impoverishespeople ineveryday.Leadersof SouthAfricacanstop xenophobiabycreating
awarenessprogrammes,make peopleaware thatthese peopleare alsohumanandtheyshould
treatedas such.Again,the constitutionof SouthAfricamustprotectpeople byguaranteeing
equal rightstoall inthe country regardlessof countryof origin. We are all Africansand we must
collaborate withourselvesforAfricatoRISE.Thanks.
LESSON NINE
AFRICA MINERAL RIP - OFF
Africaisa richcontinentwitha lotof poor people.Almosteverymineral onthe planetcanbe foundin
Africa,ofteninrichveins.Gold,diamonds,platinumwhat isextractedfromthe soil bringsmiserynot
prosperitytothe people.Thisisall due topoorleadershipabilityof ourleaders.My country,Sierra
Leone,signedanagreementwithacompany‘’Africamineral’’inextractingironore for99 years.But
thisAfricamineral companyisnotonlyextractingironore as wasagreed,theyminedanymineral they
foundthere withoutthe conceptof the people butthe government.Anothercompanycalled‘’Koidu
holding’’mineddiamondsinmyhomeland,KonoDistrict, but we neverknow whatservice are they
renderingtothe governmentorthe local people.Konodistrictisinthe listof the mostremote areasin
SierraLeone withall the diamonds.
So,what I gatheredonsolvingthissituationisnotdifferentfromwhatthe US policiesstated.Butmy
pointisthat howeffective wouldthispoliciesholdwhenthe continentisfull of corruptionatall level.A
answerto thismineral rip- off crisisinAfricamustbe that, any mineral companythatwantsto mine ina
particularinAfricamust made an agreementwiththe local people andthe government.Local people
are to be givena percentage of about40 whichincludesgivenstipendmonthlyandanemployment
opportunityfacilitywhichwill improve standardof livingof peopleand developmentatlarge.A
disclosed60% will gothe governmentforthe developmentof the nation. All theseprocesscanonlybe
made sustainable if the people of Africapracticesgoodleadershipskillsforthe developmentof Africa.
Our mineralsare one of our resourcesthatwill helpustogrow rapidlyif we use themwiselyandwe
have to use themwiselyinanyhow. Bysodoing,we have tobe the securitytoour resourceson
practicingleadershipskills,we toputourleadersontoes.Africaisthe richest continentonEarth and the
people mustbe the richestalso.
LESSON TEN
THE GOOD ABOUT CREATIVITY IN AFRICA
I’min a group calledinnovate salone communitywereintheyencourage peoplewhoare creative. They
didcompetitionsacrossSierraLeone were they canaskonsolvinga problemthatisdisturbingour
communityandlaterif your ideasseengreat,theycanhelpyouinsolvingitasyou suggest.So,this
bringme the act about creativitywhichIbelieve itisthe processof identifyingaproblem, findpossible
waysto solve itwhichwill bringsuccessfulandsustainable developmentif done welli.e.without
corruptionandwithgood leadership. If Africanscanbe creative thenourstruggle fordevelopmentcan’t
be a problemforus. But whatdisturbsa creativityideamostlyiscorruptionwhichisfuel bybad
leadership. If Africanscanfinda problemthatisdisturbingusandtry to solve themina goodmanner,
thenI see noreasonsfor usto use othercontinentscreation. We have all the innovatorstocreate what

I once proposedanideaon goodwaste managementtobe implementedinmycommunitybecause our
currentwaste managementsystemisnotgoodwhichhasbroughtto the rapidspreadof diseasestomy
people.Myproposedsystemwonanimplementingawardacrossthe countryby innovate salone

for cultivation.Thiscanhelpagriculture processestoimprove forthe developmentof Africaasitis one
of the keyfactorsfor any countryto improve.Butcan thissystembe implementedinall countries?Yes,
if we all joinhandsand accept itthroughgood skills.Letsstopbadleadershipskillsandstartcreating
newwaysfor MAMA AFRICA development.
LESSON ELEVEN
YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
My taughtare simply, since the populationof Africaisrapidlygrowingwhereinof about200 million
Africansare 15 to 25 yearsold.Thisnumberisexpectedtodouble by2050. With 10 millionyoung
graduatesenteringthe workforce eachyear.Ourleadersmusthave twooptions;standbyandwatch
thispotential degenerate, ortake actionto prepare thisenormousassettocontribute toandultimately
leadour continent - wide socio -economictransformation.MuchhasbeenwrittenaboutAfrica
impressivegrowthoverthe pastdecade.Again,inordertoresolve thisissue ourleadersmustfocuson
twofundamental issues;creatingmore sustainablejobswithdecentincomesandimprovingeducation
and skillsdevelopment.Ihave adreamthat one day thiscontinentwill rise up,live outthe true meaning
of itscreed. There will come aday whenthe youthsof thiscontinentshall singinone voice withnew
meaning.
LESSON TWELVE
HOW TO STOP THE MIGRATIONOF AFRICANS
Migration, the movementof peoplefromone place tothe otherplace insearch of good job, education,
agricultural purpose ,goodhealthcare facilities, standardof livingandsomany. So whyAfricansare
migrating?Notbecause we are worseningbutbecause we lackthose qualitiestostandardbefore andit
isonlynowwe are tryingto improve onthemwhichcan reduce the migrationratesfromAfrica. If you
checkthe migrationrate of Africansfromthe past and now, youcan see the downfall of migrantsfrom
Africawhichtellsthatour conditionisnotworseningbutimprovingtopositivity. Ihave a dream that
one day the rate of migrationout ofAfrica will be zero percentbecause we have minerals, fertile land
for agriculture, good health care facilities withgood people toset up factories and so on.
We can stopthe increase of migrationfromAfricabyintroducinggoodleadershipskills, bringin
investmentwithdecentincome,improve onagriculture,goodhealthcare facilitiesandkickout
corruptionoutand we needto be united.Withthese,Africanscansee theircontinentandthemselves
as a preciousone andplace to live forever
LESSON THIRTEEN
ARE WETHE CHANGE?
Yes…………… we the people of thisfine continentare the change if onlytheyare considered onvarious
developmental issueslike goodeducational tacktieswhichcanletusto realize thatAfricanneedus,
goodjobs,empowerthe agricultural sector,empowermostlythe girls,practice ustoengage in
leadershipskillsaswhatam doingandmore.With these qualitiesinthe heartsandmindsof us,we can’t
drinkand smoke todestroyourcontinentbutto transformAfricaintoan oasisof good economic,
education, investment, technology, agriculture andincrease inlifespan. We the people of Africaare the
way,the truth, lightandthe change to Africa.
The changesto Africaare the people ina sense thattheyare the onesthat can see and calledthe
continent,Africa! Itiswithus thatdevelopmentcanpassthrough;we can realize whatAfricaiscrying
for.So we are the change, yeswe the change to Africa.
LESSON FOURTEEN
FOREIGNAID
I have a dream that one day Africa will become a free aid continent. I can’t give youa weapontoshoot
me back strongly, that’swhatthe Europeansare doing. My agendato thisisthat, forinstance my
country,SierraLeone colonizedbyBritain,forwhat?Foran exchange forourminerals,fertile landfor
agriculture andgoodpeople.ForeignaidiscomingintoAfricanotfornothingbutforthe potential they
are seeingInAfricainnowand onfuture so that we shall notforgetthemwhenwe developmore than
them. That makesme to laugh. For Africato free fromaidthe people are tobe consideredonvarious
developmentsthrougheducation,investment,technology,goodhealthcare facilities,reduce poverty
rate andagriculture withourownresources.Africaisa rich continentandourleadersmustapplygood
leadershipskillsandwiththatwe can become a completelyaidfree territory.
I have beenseeingsomanyscholarshipsfromothercontinentswhichrequiredif givingthe opportunity
youhave to work forthemfirst. So whycan’t I go infor Africascholarshipslike ALAsothat I can workfor
my continent.Bydoingthispovertywillbe eradicatedthroughindustrializationtoimprove agriculture
withour resources.Africaisrisingandshall one daybe a continentwhere givingaidscanbe our main
objective becausewe are developedwithourresourceswhenwe believe.
LESSON FIFTEEN
HOW TO STOP BLOODSHED IN AFRICA COUNTRIES
Africansespeciallythe AUmusturge the followinginordertorestore peace anddemocracyto the
countryby;
1. The current presidenthastostepdownbyrespectingthe constitutionsothatthere will be no
bloodshed.
2. All bandradioson air muststart workingfullywhichwill enable peopletoknow whatisgoingin
the country.
3. The electionsmustbe suspendedtoease the tension.
4. Bringto justice the leadersof the militiaandmembersof the police force responsible for
extrajudicialmurdersof innocent citizens.Bringjusticegovernmentandmilitaryofficialsfor
incitingviolence.
5. Compensate the victimsof the police andimbonerakure brutality.
6. The oppositionpartymustnotengage inany revenge attacksonthe police, militiaand
supporters.
7. Create a permeable environmentthatwouldenable afreelyandvoluntarilyrepatriationof all
refugeesbacktotheirrespective homes.
I believeif these pointsare endorsedinBurundi by AFRICAUNION(AU), there willbe no
bloodshedinwarAfricacountries.But,Africanswe needtopractice goodleadershipskills.May
God helpusall!
SPECIAL LOOKS IN BURUNDI:
Am happyaboutthe stepthe Rwanda‘speople partyleadertake incondemningBurundi
violence against.FellowRwandansandfriendsof Africans,the currentdevelopmentinBurundi
followthe same patternasthat whichtookplace inRwanda duringthe unforgettablehorrorof
the 100 daysof Rwandagenocide againstTutsi.Yesterday, itwasRwanda, buttoday,it isour
fight, the sonsand daughterof Africa. We all must standup to condemninthe strongestterm
the ongoinghorrorsin Burundi,atthismomentthere isbeingperpetratedunspeakable crimes
againstthe innocentpeople of Burundi.
Violence inBurundi isnowinitsfourthdayand the Burundianpeople are beingindiscriminately
killed,imprisonedanddisappearingwithoutthe knowledgeof the international community.
Foreignersare bannedfromenteringthe country, were local radiosstationswhichare the voice
of the voicelesswere takenoff airbythe current state of the countryand the widespread
violence againstthe Burundianpeople. We call uponthe EAST AFRICACOMMUNITYMEMBERS
STATE, in particular. The UN and AU shouldintervene toendthe bloodshedinBurundi. The
people of Burundi are at a cross roads and theyneedsupportfromthe international community
and all peace lovingpeoplethroughoutthe Worldinorderto preventfurtherkillingand
massacres. The Burundiansneedactionnow fromthe AUto avert masskillings. We needgood
leaders!
CHAPTER FOUR
LESSON ONE
Is AFRICA LOOSING THE BATTLE?
Corruption, anillegal andpunishableactif caught whichcan undermine the developmentof any
country. In mycountry, for the past five yearsnow we have notbeenable tohave ministersinfive
ministriestoserve atleastthree yearswithoutbeenreplacedbyanotherperson.Evenwhenthe Ebola
virusbroke up,check pointswhere demarcatedforcheckingpassengerssothatthe viruscannot spread,
but driversdobride the police mentopassuncheckedwhichhascause the difficultytoendthe war
againstthe virus.Businessmenincrease theirpricesof productssothattheycan developthemselves
but nottheircountry.In schools,teachersgive guidelinestostudentsforexamsquestionswhichhave
cause to the pooreducationinmycountry.Above all,ourpresidentisabouttofinishhistwotermsof
office buthe wantsto go inmore forthirdterm of office. These are all formcorruptacts butthe heads
to corruptionsinAfricaare ourleadersbecause if aleaderin a societyiscorrupt, thenwhowill leftout
inthat place. But to puta stopto these effectively, educationgastobe a prioritytoour leadersfortheir
people whichwill create awarenesstopeople aboutthe dangertocorruptionandabove all,we all need
to practice good leadershipskills.Africa, withunitywe cankill corruption.Thanks.
It issaid thatpoor areas are the rootto corruptionand Africaisnot that poorwhenlookingatthe
‘’AFRICA RISING’’article.Thistellsusthatwe are growingand that the battle of corruptioninAfricawill
be won bythisgenerationandthe nextone because we are learningaboutthe benefitsof good
leadershipwhichisthe enemyforcorruption. We shall winthe battle of corruption soondue toour
rising.
LESSON TWO
PUTTING AN END TO CORRUPTION
In Nigeria, there issayingthatwhenthe motherlambeatsthe youngoneswatches.Africathere isway
for usto fightcorruptionandthe firststepwe have to take isto ensure thatthe processisenshrinedin
our various constitutions. All offendersshouldbe made toface the full wrathof the law startingwiththe
headsof government.Forinstance,inmycountry(SierraLeone) the waragainstcorruptioncanonlybe
successfullyfoughtif all corruptofficerbearersare kickedoutof governmentwhichcanbe done alsofor
all countriesinAfrica.AnotherimportantwayforAfricatokickout corruptionisto name and shame
those responsible forcorruptionanddevelopatransparentsystemof governance atall levels.Alsothe
gap betweenthe richandpoorhas to be closedbyinvestmentandimprovingeducation.Aboveall,
Africansneedtovote outcorrupt leaders.
I appreciate yourtaughtbut I am sayingthatAfricansare partial believers,Godfearingwhichimplieswe
do notneedto sitback, relax andappreciate Godfor makingusAfricansbutto work towardswhatwe
Africanscan doto the Worldat large.Again, mostAfricansseentobe non believersdue tothe fact that
theydo notappreciate themselvestobe Africansandtheircontinentasa beautiful one.Thatiswhyitis
onlydecadesnowwe startedgrowingdue toour envyforone and other, bad attitudestoourcontinent,
no goodleadershipskillsandsomany. If one can say he/she isabelieverthenthe wealthof thisEarth
shall be his/her.Itisonlynowwe startedappreciatingthatGod lovesAfricathatiswhywe are now
RISING.If we have faithin God andbelieve inHimwe canchange rapidlytopositivity. Withthisfaithwe
will worktogether,praytogether,struggle togetherandstandupfor development.Africans,let’s
change our attitudesthenwe shall rise STRONGLY.
LESSON THREE
PUT OUR LEADERS ONTOES TO MAXIMIZETO ZERO RATE?
Africa,we have beentoobusynursingourseparate statesto understandfullythe basic needof our
continent,rootedincommonpurpose,commonplanandcommonendeavor.If we ignore these
fundamental necessitieswe will alwaysbe inshamjustaswhat happenedinKenyadrainage disaster.
Our leadersmustface the full force of the law, voted outof office if foundof anycorruptionacts.Again,
we have to teach ourleadersaboutgoodleadership, educate themaboutthe dangerof corruption, and
teachthemthat Africabelongstous and letnoforeignersfool themthattheymeangoodforAfrica as in
Kenyaandotherpart of the continent. We the people of Africamustbe self monitoringtoour leaders
at all levelssothattheycan reach the needsof us.
To keepourleadersmostlyontoes,pastand presentAfricaleaderswithgoodleadership skillsmustput
strongconcrete structuresfor Africanleadersof poorleadership.If Africansleadersdoesnotdelivers
whatthe people needlike justice anddignity, respecthumanandcivil right, promote policiesthatcan
eradicate povertyandmostall oppose corruption, theymustfeel the painof the lawsthatgovernsthe
goodleadershipunion.
LESSON FOUR
IF AM VOTED INAS PRESIDENT…hahaha!!!
My country’sleadersmostlythe presentone isnotimpressingme asa leaderbecause he isbusy
constructingsubstandardroadsandreviewingconstitutionforhisthirdtermof office where the people
didnot have goodeducation,goto bedhungry,nojobs,no goodhealthandsanitationfacilities,weak
economyandpoor leadership.Iamnot too ambitioustobe tobe votedas presidentbutjustto be
someone atthe peakwholistenstothe cry of the people.Butif amto be votedaspresidentof salone
by destiny,Iamgoingto do twothings.Firstly,Ishall setupaneducational systemwhichcanbe
vocational andnonvocational thatis free forall to the lastvillage.Withthismyyounggenerationcanbe
empowered,agriculturecanbe improve,goodhealthandsanitationfacilitiescanbe inplace,corruption
can be reduce whichcanenable me tobuildgoodurbanizationsystem, standardof livingof people can
be good, companieswithnice incomescanbe available, above all myeconomycanincrease andthere
will be nomigrationof mypeople toothercountryfor help.Secondly,Ishall alterall policiesespecially
the one that doesnot allowfree educationandthatwhichcannot encourage the practice of good
leadershipatall level.All mydevelopmentwill be poweredbymycountry’sresourcesandwiththose
that are readyto buildasustainable countryforthe future.Thanks.
BUILDING PEACE INOUR HEARTS AND MINDS CANSOLVE OUR NEEDS IN OUR LOVELY CONTINENT
AND THE WORLD AT LARGE….!!!
If I lookat the definitionof peace;apeace isa way or an act takenby someone (peacemaker) tosolve or
enda dangerousactionthat someone isdoingwhichcancause lossto livesandpropertieswithina
nation, communityorthe Worldat large. So, itis withthisdefinitionof peace thatIshall concrete my
essaytitle on‘’ Buildingpeace inour Hearts and Minds’’.
Buildingpeace inourheartsandmindssimplyimpliesthattellingpeopleaboutthe cause,effect
and solutionthatthe Worldwill sufferfromif we donot practice the act of peace. Thus, buildingpeace
inour heartsand mindsalsomeansthat our heartsandmindsare to be filledwithlove, contentmind,
goodmotivation, respectforone other, practice goodleadershipandabove all we should loveourselves
and have faithto ourvariousand respectable destines.Thisabove listedcharacterscanonlybe achieve
if menand womenof thisWorldare taughton the below following;
1. Communication- communicationhelpsgreatlyinbuildingpeace inour heartsand minds. It
allowsmenandwomenof thisWorldto expresstheirangeraboutsomethingorto someone
abouttheiractionsthat isaffectingyouinsteadof holdingitinandbuildingresentment.Also
theyshouldbe taughtto ask forforgivenessandapologizingforamistake insteadof rehashing
it.
2. Creativity- mostpeacemakerstryveryhard to create somethingforyoungmenandwomenin
orderfor themto engage inworksthat can bringthemincome sothat theycan supporttheir
respective lives.A sayingwhichsaysthat‘’ an idle manisthe workshopof a devil’’.Adult
schools, vocational andnon - vocational institutionare tobe put inplace for drop - out menand
womenwhere theycanbe trainedsothat theycan abstainfromnon - peace actions.
3. Acceptance - youngmenand womenshouldbe taughtto have compassionforsomeone that
hurts theminsteadof wallowinginbitterness,whichwill make iteasiertoactivelyenjoythe
goodthingsaboutthe presentinsteadof schemingtocreate a betterfuture.Furthermore,men
and womenshouldbe taughttofocuson what theyappreciate aboutthe people intheirlives
insteadof wishingtheywouldchange.Menandwomenmustbe theirownbestfriend.
4. Connection- menandwomenshouldlearnonhow to tell the truth and be honest, share what
theyreallyfeel. Theyshouldlearntoaskthemselveswhattheycandoto create the change
they’re seeking.Theyshouldalsotryto have funwithsomeone theylove.
5. Contribution- menand womencanalsobe taughtto take or help acharity thattheybelieve in
by puttingtheirenergyintohelpingsomeoneinneedof them.Theyshouldlearntotake
volunteerworkattheirlocal communities.
Withthisfive charactersbeeninstalledintomenandwomenof the World,the World
cannot sufferfrom;
1. Massive destruction
2. Citiesanddevastated
3. Reductionincountry’seconomyand
4. Loss inlivesandpropertieswhichisnotgoodfor humanexistence.
But if those five charactersare installedinthe heartsandmindsof menand womenthe
Worldcan enjoyalastingpeace where people can;
1. Live inthe present, wakingupat same time eachmorning
2. Government’seconomycanincrease
3. Men and womencantreat eachotherwithgratitude,andkindness
4. Men and womencanbe empoweredwhichcanleadthemfor strongsurvival
5. Above all theirwill be continuityof ourHUMAN RACEwhichI am believe thatUNESCOis
fightingforbyempowering,responding,reachingthe neededof the World.The Worldis
our house, office, club, andschool andmostlyour HABITAT to live till ourrace ends.
PEACE is whatwe needtosee our creator in HEAVEN and PEACE brings PEACE. Thanks.

Africa my project

  • 1. AFRICA MY PROJECT ‘’Am not black because I was born in Africa, am black Because Africa is born in me’’ BY: MOHAMED ALPHA CONTACT: +23288358667/+23279699915
  • 2. CHAPTER ONE Africa, a continent of 54 countries and with great passion to develop.Last week, I saw an article on the internet that says investors are afraid in investing in Africa, I laughed and I reflected my mind back at Charles Robertson speech on ‘’Africa Rising’’. Below are my replies I sent to the author; 1. According to World Bank Data, life expectance has increases and the HIV infection rates and malaria are going down by 27% in Africa. 8. Our new topic is called ‘’AFRICA RISING’’ due to economy status, technology, household incomes. 9. The Africa continent is giving its young generation the skill and ability to help build the continent. 10. Above all we are boosting of good leadership in Africa. So, come all investors and invest in Africa and you will not regret it. Come to Africa, invest. ‘’AFRICA RISING’’ LESSSON ONE (WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER) By Mohamed Alpha A childhoodfriendof mine name,FodayGbondohasbeingmymentorwhentalkingaboutpotential leadersinAfrica.Ihave beenanexample of strugglingbutbecause Ihave someone thatispracticing goodleadershipskillsasfaras I have readabout itfrom previousmodulo, mypainsare now beneath me.Foday, has beingable tounderstandingmyproblemsandhe hasbeingtellingme tohave patience and to do what’sright. He has thissense of motivatingpeople well andhe isaware of himself inorder for himto adaptwell inanysituation. He wasour adviserat school forhisgood abilitytodecide whenit comesof solvingminorcasesamongus. To me,Fodayhas alwaystriedto reach the needsof those in needor the commoners,i.e.the unfortunatesintryingtosolve them.Inormallyadmirepeople with abilitytolisten, honesty, integrityandtransparency.FodayGbondo,he ismySaloumTraore,Hassan Shire,SansanClaude Hein, andGeoffreyWokuiraSSebanggala.Withthispeopleof goodleadership skills,Ibelieve AFRICA canGROW.
  • 3. LESSON TWO DEFINITION OF GOODLEADERSHIP I made mentiontomy friendFoday, whopracticesgoodleadershipjustbecause he alwaysreachthe needsof the people thatare followingandalwaysletthemtocriticizedhim whetherif he isonthe right track. Thislesson teachesusthatone shouldhave the five qualitiesasagood leadersuchas self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathyandsocial skill. If anyleaderreachesthese five qualities thenhe/she mustapplymydefinitionaboutgoodleaderpersonally.Andalsoif Iam to considermy friendFoday, asa good leaderitismainlybecause he possessesatleastthe five qualitiesof goodleader on whichthislesson talksabout.A goodleadercanbe bornor can be trainedandAfrica,we needgood leadersfordevelopment. NKRUMAH LEADERSHIP Dr. Nkrumah, the architectof Ghana independence.A goodleaderalwaystriestodeliversecurityof the state and of the people withthe rule of law, goodeducation, healthservicesandaframe of work to economicgrowthas his/herobjectives.Dr.Nkrumahfoughtforindependence of Ghanawhichhe thinks for anynationto developthere mustbe independence first.ItiswiththatNkrumahworkswithfor Ghana to be proud of as a gooddevelopingcountryandnotonlyGhana butAfricaas a whole. He believedineducationwithnobarriers, eradicate povertythroughindustrializationtoimprove agriculture inGhana andfor Africathat iswhyhe wasthinkingof pan Africa unity. But what sadme mostbut himwas that he lacksthe abilitytounderstandthe emotionof otherpeopleonwhichhe broughtup the ‘’ detentionwithnotrial’’onhispeople.Amponsah, his mainoppositionandhisfirst victim.Dr.Nkrumah,wasa goodleaderbutAfricanleadersnow mustnotfollow the wrongdidof him because he lacks‘’Empathy’’whichcanmark democracyto be harmed. We shouldlearntoadhere to the voice of our people. MR MANDELA AND GADDAFI I regardeda greatleaderbyhow he/she candelivergoodthingstohispeople.Mr.Mandeladelivershis countryto independence whichwithoutacountrycan be hard to develop. If aleaderinacountry can provide goodeducation, electricity noproblem, housingfacilitiesforall, unemploymentpeople are encouragedwhichcanpreventthemfromviolence, goodhealthandsanitationandmanymore basic facilitieswhere giventocitizen, thiswasthe workof Mr. Gaddafi whoI calleda greatleader despite the bad thingsbecause humanbeingwe are byno meansfullyperfect. Congratulationto Mandelaworkshe didtogetherwithMr. Paul Kagame of Rwanda. These twomenwhere generationthree whocleanedup the messof generationtwo(war, humanright abuse). A greatleaderalwaystriedtosee hispeople are livingahappylife whichcanbe throughindependence and theirbasicneedsof life are provided. If youwatchat SouthAfricanow,I want to be there due to theirdevelopmentthroughthe foundation Mandelabuiltforthemwhichshowsthathe was a great leader.Mr. Gaddafi wasmotivatinghispeopletowardsdevelopmentforinstance itishardto finda Libyancitizenasa migrantin anothercountry.Thiswas as a resultthatthe Libyanwere notseekinghelp
  • 4. anywhere butitisonlynowafterthe deathof Gaddafi,Libyaisnow ina trouble everydayincluding (deathsandabuse of humanright) due to the absence of thisgreatleader. If we alwayslookatthe negative aspectof people, thenwe cannevercall someoneasa greatperson. Some goodthingsat timescome frombad actions.Take a lookat Mr. Nkrumahwhois regardedasthe architectof Ghana’sindependenceanddevelopment. He introducedsome lawswhichwill enablehimto carryout developmentpeacefullylike goodeducation, agriculture etc.Hislawswere againstfreedomsof speechfromcitizensbecause he taughtthatthere mightbe people whowanttounderminehim. ‘’detentionwithouttrial’’,thatwasone of hislaw. It iswiththisactionof NkrumahthatGhana is on the move to development. So,thiswasthe same actionsthatMr. Mandelaand Mr. Gaddafi tookwhichI thinktheywere doingforthe developmentof theircountriesandAfricaatlarge. These late menare my mentortakinga lookof the good thingstheydidinpromotingdevelopmentatall levels.Thanks. Self awareness, self regulation, empathy, motivationandsocial skills. These qualitiesmustbe installed inany great leader.Mr.Mandelawas creatingawarenessandmotivationtohispeople bylisteningto theircries. He was proudof hiscolor(black).Mr. Gaddafi wasalso motivatingandlistenstothe needsof hispeople andtriedtosolve themwiththe country’sresources. He tookthe powerbecause he sawthat hispeople were suffering.Gaddafi, inmycountrywasdonatinghelplike infrastructure and transportationtoeasyour transportationcrises.Itisby nomeanswe have to congratulate themfor theirgoodworks, WE ARE NOT PERFECT. Thanks. CHAPTER TWO LESSON ONE EDUCATION We are all thinkingthatourclassroomsare intellectuallyactive placesforprogressive learning. Environmentare highlyeffectiveandconducive tostudents - centeredlearning.Butwhatdoesthat mean? The realityis, there isnosingle answerbecause teaching andlearningare awkwardtoconsider as single eventsorindividual ‘’things’’.Thisisall abunch of rhetoricuntil we puton our white coatsand studyit undermicroscope, atwhichpointabstractionslike curiosity, authenticity, self - knowledge, and affectionwillbe hardto pindown.Sowe put togetherone take onthe characteristicsof a highly effectiveclassroom.Theyactasa kindof criteriato measure yourownagainst - see if younotice pattern.Ina classroomlearning,studentscanaskquestions- goodonesandthe role of curiositycanbe studiedbutsuffice tosaythat if a learnerentersanylearningactivitywithlittle ornonatural curiosity, prospectformeaningful interactionwithtexts, mediaandspecifictasksare bleak.Inclassrooms,of formal learning- shouldcome fromvarietyof sources.Inclassrooms, ideasfromlessons, readingtests, and projects - the fiberof formal learning - shouldcome fromvarietyof sources. If theyall come from narrow silverthenyoucanmake huge sense foryourstudies.Inquiry - based, peertopeer, project, and directinstructionall canbe foundinthe classroom.Classroomlearning‘’empties’’intoconnected environmentforhighlyeffectivelearning.

It’syour endof the dayand wenthome to relax asyou findyourlaptop.Youlogintoyour degree course learningzone anddiscoveryou’ve beensetatoughassignment.Youdownloadsome keytextbooks fromthe online universitylibraryandbegintowork. While yourfellowsare busypoppingtheirheadsi n the traditional university, yougetsome tipsfromcourse matesthroughan online forum.Isthisthe universityexperience of the future?Andwiththe costof universitysettorise up,manymore are likely to studyfor theirdegreesinacheaper, flexible ways- perhapsthroughdigitally- baseddistance learning providers. Some parentsof those traditional universitiesare beginningtoask‘’ whatare we payingall thismoneyfor? If theirchildisgettingeighthoursof lecturesaweekandthe rest of the time they’re goingonline’’. Butisthe experiencethese onlinestudentsare gettingasgoodas the traditional universitiesstudents?Yes,because if you’ve grownupalreadythenthere isnoneedgoingtothat environmentandanywayit’sanexpensive waytolearn.Soare universitiesgoingtohave more students or are theygoingto raise theirfeesbecause more are findingalternativewaysof learning. Learningisformof educationandcan be done whendrivenbyself - interest, self - initiatedandwhen it’sallowedtohappenwhereverandwheneverthe intereststrikes.Learninghappensbestwhenthe learnersinteractbothwiththe informationandwithothers.Theydiscusstheirunderstandingand communicate withothersintheironlineorphysical.Learninghappenswhenyouare connectedwiththe Worldi.e.youconnectwithotherlearners,teachersorguides,withschool asawhole andwithyour community. If am to leverage orinfluence youtospeedupwithlife,Ihave tofirstgive youa piece of advicesabout life.Wordsthatcan motivate you, thatcan enable youtosee the Worldas a classroomto learn. Secondly,Ineedtohave time withyouto know yourweaknessesandstrength.Onknowingthat,Ican easilytell youonhowtoovercome those weaknessesandhow to use yourstrengthforbetterfuture. ThirdlyandmostlyI shouldbe a mentortoyou,I can’t tell youto stopdoingbad and I’mdoingit.I shouldbe a great example of goodleadershiptoyouforbettersurvival.Andlastly,Ihave toestablisha peernetworkwhichcanprovide insightandexperience, realityonchallengeswe face anditinspiresus to respondtoourselvesimposedlimitation. Thanks. Professorsare highlystandardeducatedpeople andtheirpresencesare highlyinfluencedat universities.Theyallow onlyalimitedperiodtoestablishedarecordof publishedresearch, abilityto attract grant funding, academicvisibility, teachingexcellence andadministrative orcommunityservice. Typically, professorshave higherteachingloads, lowercompensation, littleinfluence andfew inany benefits.Professorsintraditional universitiesgivethemmostof the qualitiestheydeserve tothe students. Africa,we needall of these systeminoureducationformore ‘’RISING’’.Thanks.
  • 6. LESSON TWO EDUCATION TO EMPLOYMENT My cousinwhostudiedasan ‘’Liberian’’atthe universityof SierraLeone can’tfindajobthree years back. I checkedtoherissue andfoundout that; she doesnotknow the skillsthatsuitemployers, our countrydoesnot have enoughinstitutionsforhersuit, eventhe availablevacantinstitutionscan’tpay herenoughto care forherself andmostlythe institutionsthatcaneasilyhelphertoworkare mainly basedon ‘’personality’’i.e.one needtohave someonetoclime youthere forhiringirrespectivetothe degree youhave.Educationinmycountryand in Africaisgettinggoodbuttheyare workinginopposite directionandwe needtoput a stopto that by creatingmore jobswithgoodincomeswhichcanimprove economy, teachthemthe require skillsforemployers, stopthe personalityandtryto practice agriculture whichcanreduce povertyandincrease industrialization. One caneducate tobe employedin orderfor his/hersurvival whichcanmake Africato RISE. LESSON TWO WAYSOF LEARNING Throughoutmyjuniorschool,Iwas all by myself atschool.Ididmy readings, assignmentsbymyself and neveraskany of my friendsaquestionontopics.Iwas like doinggreatatmy readings, myassignments where alsogoodbutnot much and whenitcomesintermsof askingquestionsthatIdidn’tknow, hmm, a big problemforme because Iwas shyingandwiththatI was havingproblemwithmygrades.Ientered my seniorhighschool withthisself habitof mine,soIdecidedtochange itthoughitwas goodbut for me to have highergradesthistime round.I wasreadingbymyself butmyassignmentswhere donewith my friendsandi.soI startedbuildingconfidence where myteachersandmyfriendsgotangrywithme for askingtoomany questions.Butmyproblemwiththe educationIwashavingwasthat I lacked practical lessons.Iam a science studentwhotalkedaboutchemicalsbutneversaw sodiumbefore. This makesmygrades a bitloweronexternal exams. If myeducationistobe more standard, peer, self and practical learninghave tobe installedinme. LESSON THREE WHOLE WORLD IS A CLASSROOM Educationisa methodof learningskillswhichyoucanapplytoachieve yourgoals.Learningdoesnot onlytake place ina close classroomlike inschoolsoruniversitieswhere yourlecturergivesyou instruction, butitisa life time processwhichtakesplace anywhere yougoand at any time.If Iam to readminingengineeringthenthe miningsitescanservesasa bestclassroomforme whichcan tell one that practical learningisbetterthanactive listeningineducation.Throughthe discussionpanel withmy variousapplicantsacrossAfricaconductedbyALU, I have learntsomuch ina sense thatmymodulus didn’teventaughtme thatabout whatis happeninginAfrica.Thisalsocantell one thatpeerdiscussion throughmeetings, social meetsandmore cancontribute greatlyonone educationdue tothe fact its buildconfidence inyouandto ask questionsanddebatingonanissue thatyour lecturercan’thave time

CHAPTER THREE LESSON ONE OPPORTUNITYAND POTENTIAL Freetown, the peninsulacapital of mycountry,SierraLeone, foundat the Westernregionbuildingmost of itsboundarieswiththe AtlanticOceanandwithsomany hillsandmountains.Freetownisthe populatedcitywithasmall geographical land.Mostpart of the landin Freetowniscoverwithhillsand mountainswhichhave make itbe lessbeautiful andaccommodationcrisisisathigherlevel.Freetown,a citywhere business, educationandsocial life ishalf improve.Withthis, ithascause the rapidmigration of people fromvillageswithonlyone landentrance. The attitudes of people towardsthe cityare very poor.About1% of the populationoutof millionsare livingwithhousingwithgoodwaterandelectricity supplyaccessroads,50% of the populationare livinginthe streetsandroadsas theirhomesandthe 49% are on up hillsandmountainwere noroadsor waterand electricitysupplycanreach. But if Governmentistoaddressthisissue, theyshall turnFreetownasanadministrative cityandlocate an area calledLUNGIa kilometersawayfromFreetownasthe commercial city.Ondoingthistheyshall embarkon; 1. Accommodation - kroobay community - part of Freetownandthe unhealthiestplace onEarth to live whichiswide opentoanOcean.Governmentshall relocate peoplepeople there anda decentlow - cost constructionof housingandwithall the basicfacilitiesthatahouse should have will be builtforworkers.Aboutathousandpeople canaccommodate there.Andthe proposedcommercial cityshall accommodatesamillionspopulation.Thiscitymustbe constructedwithaccessroads, universities, low costhousing, commercialcenters, business centers, shoppingmolls, healthandsanitationcenters, goodrefuse disposal, carparks, good waterand electricitysupply. 2. Transportation - if Freetownisleftasthe administrativecity, the populationwouldlesswhich will lessthe burdenof transportation. There willbe nochange of transportationsystem, itisjust Governmentshouldconstructmore goodroadson the hillsandmountainswithbusesavailable intransportingworkers. Those usingthe seascanbe providedcommercialferriesandboatsfor easymovementsof people acrossthe country.Effectivewalkingpathwaycanalsobe made. 3. Finally,Governmentmustensure thattheycollaborate withprivatesectorsinsecuringloans. AlsoGovernmentandprivate sectorsmustensure thattheybringexpertise whocantrain citizensonurbanplanningandexpertise thatcanbeautifycitiesnotjustbuildinghousing. The Governmentmustensure thatthe policiesonlandtenure systemmustmake roomforpoor people toacquire landsnotjustthe rich. Governmentmustensure thatconstructingcompanies buildsustainable cities. If these systemsare putin place, mycountrycan enjoyagood sustainableurbanizationsystem where businesscanflowfrom villageswhichcansupportdevelopmentatall levels.Butwe the
  • 8. people mustfirstacceptdevelopmentasaninternal agreement.Urbanizationcanserve asa gatewayfordevelopmentif done inagoodmanner. We are the nextgenerationandwe have the potential now todevelopAfricathroughgoodurbanization because ita life time process.Investinginurbanizationthroughreal estate canserve asa gatewayfor developmentinanycountry. But howcan we investinthis,we needtobringinurban landinstitution whichcan developthe skillsof people towardsplanningurban,we have toencourage developersfrom the World to investinreal estate inAfrica,we needtotrainpeople onhow tobeautifyurbanlandsand lastlywe the people of Africamustpractice goodleadershipskills.Investinginreal estate inAfricacan bringhuge returns(profits) whichinturncanimprove standardof livingandotherbasicfacilitiestothe people andalsocan contribute tothe increase of an economyinAfricacontinent. We the nextgenerationare goingtoensure sustainable urbanizationthroughinvestingonreal estate, the rule of lawexistsatall level, the securityandone’srighttolandwill be upheldandthatpropertywill not be destroyedbywaror civil unrest. We will furtherstrengthenthe environmentfordoingbusiness. We will ensure thatwe all stayinWorldclass hotel, walkpastbeautiful retailsshopssellingeverything and eatin fabulousrestaurantlikewhatMr. FRED saw in Paris. We will create stronginstitutions, uphold the rule of lawand ensure thatAfricaisfinallyable toreachitsfull potential asacontinent. If thisis done inAfricaby we the nextgeneration, thenthe workof Mr. Mandela,Nkrumah,Kagame,Nyerere and Swanikerwillnotbe invainbut complimentedastheyaimedAfricatobe. Africa, inthe past has beeninvolvewithineffective, corruptleaderswhohave causedcivilwar, human rightsabusesandbeenreal destructiontoeconomicgrowths.Africacontinenthasproducesthree generationsof leadersandeachgenerationhasleftadifferentlegacy. The firstgenerationwhowere Mr. Kwane NkrumahandJuliusNyerere of GhanaandTanzania respectivelyinthe 1950’s.This generationfreedthe continentfromcolonialismwhichwasgoodforthe continent. Generationstwo were Mr. Mobutu Sese - Soko,Idi AminandSani Abachaof Zaire,Ugandaand Nigeriarespectively. They broughtwar, corruptionandhumanright abusesinthe continent, shame onthem.Generationsthree cleanedthe messof generationtwoandthese were Mr.Paul Kagame andNelsonMandelaof Rwanda and SouthAfricarespectively, theywere goodleaders. The currentgenerationsare calledthe ‘’stabilizer’’because theyhave improvedmacroeconomicpoliciesandbecome more accountabletoour people. SPECIAL LOOKS AT URBANIZATIONIN AFRICA Africaurbanizationismostlydone poorlyinmanycountriesinAfricathatiswhymanypeople inthe citiesare livingwithinadequate housingandpoorlivingstandards. If urbanizationisdone well inAfrica, theninvestorscanbringininvestment companieswhichcancreate jobopportunitiestoimprove the livesof the people andcanstrengthenthe economyof Africa.OtherAfricacountriesneedtocopyand paste whatMorocco and Rwandadidto improve urbanizationbyfirst, focusonbasicservicesnotjust onlyhousingbutonbuildingsustainablecity.Secondly, alandtenure systemwasadoptedwhereeven the poor can affordlands.Thirdly, the peopleandthe leadersacceptedthe factthattheyneedtoplana sustainable cityforthe future notas whathappeninNigeriathoughwiththe helpof anexternal bodies
  • 9. theycan’t acceptit mainlybecause of poorleadership.Goodurbanizationisagatewayto development for Africa. LESSON TWO HOMOSEXUALITY Homosexualityisanevil actaccordingto the holybooksbutnot a punishable crime insome areasand punishable insome areasalsoaroundthe World.Butwhyis ita punishablecrime insome areassimply because theysee itas an act that God isagainstand whenGod isagainstanythinginany place, itwill not go downwell.InAfrica,we believethatitisa ‘’white manculture’’andwe are notto accept it because if we dowe are goingto forgetour ownculture whilesotherAfricansare doingitwhichcan leadto homophobicact. To me,homosexualityisan unbelievable actwhichtellsme thatpeople are not believersof Godandwiththat conceptin the heartsand mindsof Africanswe will notlive inpeace. Homosexualitycancause civil warthroughhomophobicactionsaswhatis happeninginSouthAfricabut not onlyhomosexual cancause it. So,if I’mto findsolutionstostopthisact as a leaderor not,I shall discourage the actby settingalaw that isagainstit and if anyone iscaught shall fell the pinchof the law.Again,Ishall setalaw whichwill forbidactionsrelatingtohomophobicactsandprovide more roomforunemploymentrate toreduce. Finally,Ishall conducta sensitizationteamtotalktopeople aboutthe dangerof homosexual of homophobiaactsandteach themthat theyshouldpractice theirownculture andtraditionsinthe best mannerthat will promote peace anddevelopmentof the country.Thanks. Homosexualityisnota newideatothe World,it came about fromancienttimesandGod destroyed those people immediatelyasitwasstartedaccording to holybooks.Thistellsusthatitan act that causeslossof livesandpropertiesinacountrythrough homophobicprocess.Ourleadershave to practice good leadershipskillsinordertoprotectusfrom it.Leadershave to teachtheirpeople to practice good religiousskillsasitisthe bestway to take indiscouragingpeople towardsit.Educate people thathomosexual doesnotensure the continuityof humanrace andour populationrate will be standstill whichdoesnotencourage developmentat all levels.Withthese, the mindsetof peoplewill be convertedintogoodandno more homosexual orhomophobiaactsinAfricaand we shall grow peacefully. LESSON THREE MO IBRAHIM COMPETITIONTO HELP OUR LEADERS The Mo Ibrahimcompetitionistohelpourleaderstoworkgoodbut Africafailure have some about largelyasa resultof frequentleadershipchange, lackof ideology, policyreversal andweakinstitutional patterns.Ialso examine the leadershipselectionprocessinAfricawhichtakesthe impositionpattern and that Africanleadershave frequentlycome totheirpositionlimitedexperience.Hence, the declinein moral and disciplinecausedbybadpolicieserodedprofessionalstandards, ethicsandweakenedthe systemof governance.ForAfricathe crisisof leadershipandgovernance inthe continent, thoseon
  • 10. whomthe burdenof leadershipwill tall inthe future mustfullycomprehendtheirresponsibilities, duties and obligation. We have toexpose andbe preparedtoforce the challengesof leadershipin developing societybypracticinggoodleadershipskills.Since the longtermsalvationof developingcountries dependsonthe qualityof itsfuture leaders. Onlymaximumempathyforthe peoplecanbe relevanttothe qualitative movementof Africa. Leadershipisone of the mostobservedandleastunderstoodphenomenaonearth.A call for a focus leadershipandgovernanceistimely, importantandnodoubttopical, reflectingthe Worldwide thrust towardpolitical andeconomicliberationiswhatthe MoIbrahimprice is aboutinAfrica. Most constitutedgovernmentinAfricahave beenundergoingseriousanddeepeningpolitico - economic crisis. These problemsgeneratedbypolitical, social andeconomicinstabilityandthe prevalenceof ethic, communal andreligiouscrisiswhichhave bedeviledAfrica.Call ourattentiontothe problemsof leadershipandgovernanceinthe continent.Africanleadersletsgoforthe Mo Ibrahimcompetitionby fittingtothe criteria. LESSON FOUR HOW CANAFRICA DEVELOP? Since the days of colonialism, westerncountrieshave alwayshadanobligationtosupportformer colonial territoriesintermof development.Colonialgovernmentssetupsocial, political andeconomic structures.Howeverafterindependence we were nottrainedhow tomanage anddevelopthe resources we had. Theyhave injectedbillionsof dollarsfoundingonvariousdevelopmentprojects.Irrespectiveof all this,Africanscountriesespeciallysub - SaharaAfrica, hasgottenevenworse.Corruptionand mismanagementof publicfunds, assetsandresourcesisbecomingthe orderof the day.Thisreasonfor thisispartly because we are justgivenresourceswhose value we donotknow because we donotwork for them.Ashumans,we mostlylookafterwhatwe value, andwe mostlyvalue whatwe workhardfor. AndI totallyagree tothis’’Africadoesnotneedanymore aidto develop, itneedsmoral supportand guidance toharnessherresourcesto develop’’.Whatdoyousay aboutthis? Thanks. HavinglivedinAfricaall mylifetime. The perceptionthatwesternaidtoAfricaisa pure humanitarian gesture inbunkum.Oil companiesplunderingouroil resourcesincahootswithcorruptAfricansare well known.Exploitationof ourminersbymiddlemenandthe electronicsindustryisanotherexample.Atthe same time,Africansshouldstopwinchingaboutcolonial roleindrawnboundariesandforcedtribal integration.Africa,we needtostandupon our ownlike whatGhana did.We needto use our Africa expression‘’tofeedforourselveswithourownresources’’. Also,Ithinkthat the bestoutside helpAfricacouldreceive isfromprofitable enterprisesrather than themselves profitorganization.Thiswillencourage corporationwere tooutsource labortoworkAfrica setup‘’factorytowns’’thatcan putlocalsto work andsoldthemneededgoodsandprovide affordable housing.Thiswill alsoenable economicsthatcouldbe forall interestinglytohelpthe poorAfricans communitiesistohave conditionalscholarships.Bygivenwe Africansscholarships aswhatALU isdoing, it will helptoeducate the poorthatcan preventthemfromnon - developmental actsandcontributesto
  • 11. the transformationandeffective socio - economicsolutionsinAfrica.Above all,myfellows’friends, Africawe needtopractice goodleadershipskillsforusto developmore thanothercontinents. LESSON FIVE WHYIS AFRICAPOOR? Africaispoor because we lackgoodinstitutionsinconductinggoodelections.Electionsforinstance,in my countryare mostlydone badina waythat you can see the chairof the electionisonthe otherside and can alsosee that candidatesare fuelingyouthstofighttheiropponentswhichcancause lose tolives and propertiesthatcandisturbsdevelopmentprocessesandmigrationof peoplelikeinBurundi now. Africaisalso poorbecause of the increase incorruptionrates.Itis inAfricayou can see that presidents are holdingtheirpositioninoffice atmosttill death,bride inofficesif youwanttowork,bride in schools,businesses,hospitalsandmore.Africa,we have forgetourculture andtraditionswhichmade us to be Africansand we are busyingchasingthe culture of others.Intermsof religiouspractices,Ican say that we are tryingbutwe needmore effortdue toour bad attitudes.Africa,we have all the resources that enable ustoclimax developmentbutwhywe lackgoodtransportations,nojobs,poorhealthand sanitation,pooragriculture etc. Thisis all due to poorleadershipskills,Africawe canbecome developedthroughgoodleadership which can provide usgoodeducation,agriculture,goodhealthandsanitationandotherbasicfacilities.Thanks. The main fuel tothe povertyrate inAfricais corruptionandit isan act of poor leadership.Africanshave forgottenwhere theycame fromthatwhytheyare not playinganygoodrole inAfrica.Africawe have the potential fordevelopmentinawaythat we have good natural resourceslike landforagriculture, riversforhydro,good andnextgenerationetc.butwhatwe needmostisthe practice of good leadershipandthe contributionof citizensforthe bettermentof ourMAMA AFRICA.Thanks. LESSON SIX AFRICA CULTURE It alwaysmake more sense whenone choose his/herownculture ortheirwill be noculture atall especiallyinamulticultural societywhereitwill be more difficulttointermsof identity.Africans,we needtoretainour culture as a defense againstracismandtoprovide usstabilityandindividualism.Our culture isour identitybecause we grew upwithitanditis that culture of oursthat made us to be Africans.Ourculture can provide usa communityof likemindedpeople.Adoptingsomeone else culture that can bringdevelopmentisgoodbutforthat developmenttoholdwe needtoretainours.Leadersin Africaneedtointroduce ourculture inschools,communitiesandinanysocial aspectswhichcan enable us alsoto be good leadersinAfrica.Africans,w are blackandit’sbeautiful,it’sourculture.Thanks. Education - journalismplaysanimportantrole inthe livesof pupilsorstudents.Forinstance, throughlisteningtogoodnewsyourabilityinEnglishcanimprove,alsoyourabilityinlistening can be good.Withthisthe educational systemcanbe improve whichcanencourage development. 2. Agriculture - overthe lastweeks,there wasalandtakenaway bysomeone illegallyfromagroup of farmers were inrice cultivationwascarriedonthe land.The farmerswere unable toreport the matter to the authorities,soajournalistwentthere andhe wastoldaboutthe issue.The journalistwentbackandmade the reportthrough the air to the authorities. If a countrycan boost of developmentthen,education,agriculture anddemocracyhasto be made whichjournalismcanhelpinreachingthe people.Thanks. Voice of the voiceless,that’sjournalism.Couple of daysago,there wasa fuel shortage inmy countrywere people undergorandommovementdue tolackof transportation,electricityand alsoit causesan increase of foodproductsandother products.Thiscan undermine developmental processacrossacountry.Journalistsinterveneimmediately,reportsweremade throughair, newspapers,internetaboutthe fuel shortage tothe central government.Itwasnot easyat all for thembecause some were givenfalse newsandfew were giventhe accurate news due to corruptionacts, butthe fact remainsthat the message reachesthe authorities.Withthe interventionof the journalists,the authoritieswere able toresolve the problemasfastas they can whichhave aidthe free movementof people,electricitysupplyandproductspriceshas beingreducedforthe people.Allthese canaidtoa fastand sustainable developmentina country. LESSON EIGHT HOW TO STOP XENOPHOBIA IN AFRICA Xenophobiameans‘’fearof strangersorforeigners’’.It’sadifficultquestiontorespondtobecause xenophobiaisessentiallybeneaththe surface.Eachcountryhasdifferentxenophobicroots,but generallytheseviewsare catalyzedbyaninflux of immigrants.Manypoliticianshave linkedchangesin the economywithanincrease inprejudicesandxenophobia.Insimpleterms,anexpensive industryand economywill drawsimmigrantstothe cities,where asduringtimesof hardship anddeclining, immigrantsare oftentargetedasthe cause of these problems,particularlyinthe case of racial over employment. In respecttopreventingxenophobia,leadershave limitednumbersof solutions;

Governmentpoliciestoimpose finesorsentencestoindividualsinxenophobicactivityhasbeen discussedamongstanti - racismgroups. However, itisimpractical toassesand convictpeople of theirbehaviorasitdirectlycontradictsfreedomof expression. 2. Governmentgroupsandcampaignsmustbe put inplace to try and preventxenophobiaand alloweasierassimilation. 3. Xenophobiaisusuallycausedbyanintense negative experience fromyourpast.Butyour mind can alsocreate that fearseeminglywithoutbasis.Leadersshouldnottake advantage of their past. LeadersinSouthAfricashouldpractice goodleadershipskillsandtalktotheircitizensaboutthe negative aspectof xenophobia.Citizensof SouthAfrica,we are all Africans.Thanks. Xenophobiaaffectsatouristinthe way that because if you’re atourist, youcannotgo to public for youare afraidof strangers.Discriminatingagainstanygroupof people makesusall lostout, it impoverishespeople ineveryday.Leadersof SouthAfricacanstop xenophobiabycreating awarenessprogrammes, make peopleaware thatthese peopleare alsohumanandtheyshould treatedas such.Again, the constitutionof SouthAfricamustprotectpeople byguaranteeing equal rightstoall inthe country regardlessof countryof origin. We are all Africansand we must collaborate withourselvesforAfricatoRISE.Thanks. LESSON NINE AFRICA MINERAL RIP - OFF Africaisa richcontinentwitha lotof poor people.Almosteverymineral onthe planetcanbe foundin Africa, ofteninrichveins.Gold, diamonds, platinumwhat isextractedfromthe soil bringsmiserynot prosperitytothe people.Thisisall due topoorleadershipabilityof ourleaders. My country,Sierra Leone, signedanagreementwithacompany‘’Africamineral’’inextractingironore for99 years. But thisAfricamineral companyisnotonlyextractingironore as wasagreed, theyminedanymineral they foundthere withoutthe conceptof the people butthe government.Anothercompanycalled‘’Koidu holding’’mineddiamondsinmyhomeland,KonoDistrict, but we neverknow whatservice are they renderingtothe governmentorthe local people.Konodistrictisinthe listof the mostremote areasin SierraLeone withall the diamonds. So,what I gatheredonsolvingthissituationisnotdifferentfromwhatthe US policiesstated.Butmy pointisthat howeffective wouldthispoliciesholdwhenthe continentisfull of corruptionatall level.A answerto thismineral rip- off crisisinAfricamustbe that, any mineral companythatwantsto mine ina particularinAfricamust made an agreementwiththe local people andthe government.Local people are to be givena percentage of about40 whichincludesgivenstipendmonthlyandanemployment opportunityfacilitywhichwill improve standardof livingof peopleand developmentatlarge.A disclosed60% will gothe governmentforthe developmentof the nation. All theseprocesscanonlybe made sustainable if the people of Africapracticesgoodleadershipskillsforthe developmentof Africa. Bysodoing,we have tobe the securitytoour resourceson practicingleadershipskills,we toputourleadersontoes.Africaisthe richest continentonEarth and the people mustbe the richestalso. LESSON TEN THE GOOD ABOUT CREATIVITY IN AFRICA I’min a group calledinnovate salone communitywereintheyencourage peoplewhoare creative. They didcompetitionsacrossSierraLeone were they canaskonsolvinga problemthatisdisturbingour communityandlaterif your ideasseengreat, theycanhelpyouinsolvingitasyou suggest. So,this bringme the act about creativitywhichIbelieve itisthe processof identifyingaproblem, findpossible waysto solve itwhichwill bringsuccessfulandsustainable developmentif done welli.e.without corruptionandwithgood leadership. If Africanscanbe creative thenourstruggle fordevelopmentcan’t be a problemforus. But whatdisturbsa creativityideamostlyiscorruptionwhichisfuel bybad leadership. If Africanscanfinda problemthatisdisturbingusandtry to solve themina goodmanner, thenI see noreasonsfor usto use othercontinentscreation. We have all the innovatorstocreate what othersare doingbutwe needgoodleadershipattitudes.Butwhatdisturbsacreativityideamostlyis corruptionwhichisfuel bybadleadership. If Africanscanfindaproblemthatisdisturbingusandtry to solve themina goodmanner, thenI see noreasonsfor usto use othercontinentscreation. We have all the innovatorstocreate what othersare doingbut we needgoodleadershipattitudes. Thanks I once proposedanideaon goodwaste managementtobe implementedinmycommunitybecause our currentwaste managementsystemisnotgoodwhichhasbroughtto the rapidspreadof diseasestomy people.Myproposedsystemwonanimplementingawardacrossthe countryby innovate salone communitybutdue to to corruptionandbad leadersinmycommunity whichtheytaughtthatI was opposingthemdidnotallowedmysystemtobe implementedwhichmighthave stopthe spreadof diseasesandimprove the livesof mypeople.Creativitycanleadonsolvingsomanyproblemswe are seeingnowasAfricans. LESSON ELEVEN YOUTH EMPOWERMENT My taughtare simply, since the populationof Africaisrapidlygrowingwhereinof about200 million Africansare 15 to 25 yearsold.Thisnumberisexpectedtodouble by2050. With 10 millionyoung graduatesenteringthe workforce eachyear.Ourleadersmusthave twooptions;standbyandwatch thispotential degenerate, ortake actionto prepare thisenormousassettocontribute toandultimately leadour continent - wide socio -economictransformation.MuchhasbeenwrittenaboutAfrica

LESSON TWELVE HOW TO STOP THE MIGRATIONOF AFRICANS Migration, the movementof peoplefromone place tothe otherplace insearch of good job, education, agricultural purpose ,goodhealthcare facilities, standardof livingandsomany. So whyAfricansare migrating?Notbecause we are worseningbutbecause we lackthose qualitiestostandardbefore andit isonlynowwe are tryingto improve onthemwhichcan reduce the migrationratesfromAfrica. If you checkthe migrationrate of Africansfromthe past and now, youcan see the downfall of migrantsfrom Africawhichtellsthatour conditionisnotworseningbutimprovingtopositivity. Ihave a dream that one day the rate of migrationout ofAfrica will be zero percentbecause we have minerals, fertile land for agriculture, good health care facilities withgood people toset up factories and so on. We can stopthe increase of migrationfromAfricabyintroducinggoodleadershipskills, bringin investmentwithdecentincome, improve onagriculture, goodhealthcare facilitiesandkickout corruptionoutand we needto be united.Withthese,Africanscansee theircontinentandthemselves as a preciousone andplace to live forever LESSON THIRTEEN ARE WETHE CHANGE? Yes…………… we the people of thisfine continentare the change if onlytheyare considered onvarious developmental issueslike goodeducational tacktieswhichcanletusto realize thatAfricanneedus, goodjobs, empowerthe agricultural sector, empowermostlythe girls, practice ustoengage in leadershipskillsaswhatam doingandmore. With these qualitiesinthe heartsandmindsof us,we can’t drinkand smoke todestroyourcontinentbutto transformAfricaintoan oasisof good economic, education, investment, technology, agriculture andincrease inlifespan. We the people of Africaare the way,the truth, lightandthe change to Africa. The changesto Africaare the people ina sense thattheyare the onesthat can see and calledthe continent,Africa! Itiswithus thatdevelopmentcanpassthrough;we can realize whatAfricaiscrying for.So we are the change, yeswe the change to Africa. LESSON FOURTEEN FOREIGNAID
  • 17. I have a dream that one day Africa will become a free aid continent. I can’t give youa weapontoshoot me back strongly, that’swhatthe Europeansare doing. My agendato thisisthat, forinstance my country,SierraLeone colonizedbyBritain, forwhat?Foran exchange forourminerals, fertile landfor agriculture andgoodpeople.ForeignaidiscomingintoAfricanotfornothingbutforthe potential they are seeingInAfricainnowand onfuture so that we shall notforgetthemwhenwe developmore than them. That makesme to laugh. For Africato free fromaidthe people are tobe consideredonvarious developmentsthrougheducation, investment, technology, goodhealthcare facilities, reduce poverty rate andagriculture withourownresources.Africaisa rich continentandourleadersmustapplygood leadershipskillsandwiththatwe can become a completelyaidfree territory. I have beenseeingsomanyscholarshipsfromothercontinentswhichrequiredif givingthe opportunity youhave to work forthemfirst. So whycan’t I go infor Africascholarshipslike ALAsothat I can workfor my continent.Bydoingthispovertywillbe eradicatedthroughindustrializationtoimprove agriculture withour resources.Africaisrisingandshall one daybe a continentwhere givingaidscanbe our main objective becausewe are developedwithourresourceswhenwe believe. LESSON FIFTEEN HOW TO STOP BLOODSHED IN AFRICA COUNTRIES Africansespeciallythe AUmusturge the followinginordertorestore peace anddemocracyto the countryby; 1. The current presidenthastostepdownbyrespectingthe constitutionsothatthere will be no bloodshed. 2. All bandradioson air muststart workingfullywhichwill enable peopletoknow whatisgoingin the country. 3. The electionsmustbe suspendedtoease the tension. 4. Bringto justice the leadersof the militiaandmembersof the police force responsible for extrajudicialmurdersof innocent citizens.Bringjusticegovernmentandmilitaryofficialsfor incitingviolence. 5. Compensate the victimsof the police andimbonerakure brutality. 6. The oppositionpartymustnotengage inany revenge attacksonthe police, militiaand supporters. 7. Create a permeable environmentthatwouldenable afreelyandvoluntarilyrepatriationof all refugeesbacktotheirrespective homes. I believeif these pointsare endorsedinBurundi by AFRICAUNION(AU), there willbe no bloodshedinwarAfricacountries. But,Africanswe needtopractice goodleadershipskills.May God helpusall! CHAPTER FOUR LESSON ONE Is AFRICA LOOSING THE BATTLE? Corruption, anillegal andpunishableactif caught whichcan undermine the developmentof any country. In mycountry, for the past five yearsnow we have notbeenable tohave ministersinfive ministriestoserve atleastthree yearswithoutbeenreplacedbyanotherperson.Evenwhenthe Ebola virusbroke up,check pointswhere demarcatedforcheckingpassengerssothatthe viruscannot spread, but driversdobride the police mentopassuncheckedwhichhascause the difficultytoendthe war againstthe virus.Businessmenincrease theirpricesof productssothattheycan developthemselves but nottheircountry. In schools, teachersgive guidelinestostudentsforexamsquestionswhichhave cause to the pooreducationinmycountry.Above all, ourpresidentisabouttofinishhistwotermsof office buthe wantsto go inmore forthirdterm of office. These are all formcorruptacts butthe heads to corruptionsinAfricaare ourleadersbecause if aleaderin a societyiscorrupt, thenwhowill leftout inthat place. But to puta stopto these effectively, educationgastobe a prioritytoour leadersfortheir people whichwill create awarenesstopeople aboutthe dangertocorruptionandabove all,we all need to practice good leadershipskills.Africa, withunitywe cankill corruption.Thanks. It issaid thatpoor areas are the rootto corruptionand Africaisnot that poorwhenlookingatthe ‘’AFRICA RISING’’article.Thistellsusthatwe are growingand that the battle of corruptioninAfricawill be won bythisgenerationandthe nextone because we are learningaboutthe benefitsof good leadershipwhichisthe enemyforcorruption. We shall winthe battle of corruption soondue toour rising.

LESSON TWO PUTTING AN END TO CORRUPTION In Nigeria, there issayingthatwhenthe motherlambeatsthe youngoneswatches.Africathere isway for usto fightcorruptionandthe firststepwe have to take isto ensure thatthe processisenshrinedin our various constitutions. All offendersshouldbe made toface the full wrathof the law startingwiththe headsof government.Forinstance, inmycountry(SierraLeone) the waragainstcorruptioncanonlybe successfullyfoughtif all corruptofficerbearersare kickedoutof governmentwhichcanbe done alsofor all countriesinAfrica.AnotherimportantwayforAfricatokickout corruptionisto name and shame those responsible forcorruptionanddevelopatransparentsystemof governance atall levels.Alsothe gap betweenthe richandpoorhas to be closedbyinvestmentandimprovingeducation.Aboveall, Africansneedtovote outcorrupt leaders. I appreciate yourtaughtbut I am sayingthatAfricansare partial believers,Godfearingwhichimplieswe do notneedto sitback, relax andappreciate Godfor makingusAfricansbutto work towardswhatwe Africanscan doto the Worldat large.Again, mostAfricansseentobe non believersdue tothe fact that theydo notappreciate themselvestobe Africansandtheircontinentasa beautiful one.Thatiswhyitis onlydecadesnowwe startedgrowingdue toour envyforone and other, bad attitudestoourcontinent, no goodleadershipskillsandsomany. If one can say he/she isabelieverthenthe wealthof thisEarth shall be his/her.Itisonlynowwe startedappreciatingthatGod lovesAfricathatiswhywe are now RISING.If we have faithin God andbelieve inHimwe canchange rapidlytopositivity. Withthisfaithwe will worktogether, praytogether, struggle togetherandstandupfor development.Africans, let’s change our attitudesthenwe shall rise STRONGLY. LESSON THREE PUT OUR LEADERS ONTOES TO MAXIMIZETO ZERO RATE? Africa,we have beentoobusynursingourseparate statesto understandfullythe basic needof our continent, rootedincommonpurpose, commonplanandcommonendeavor. If we ignore these fundamental necessitieswe will alwaysbe inshamjustaswhat happenedinKenyadrainage disaster. Our leadersmustface the full force of the law, voted outof office if foundof anycorruptionacts.Again, we have to teach ourleadersaboutgoodleadership, educate themaboutthe dangerof corruption, and teachthemthat Africabelongstous and letnoforeignersfool themthattheymeangoodforAfrica as in Kenyaandotherpart of the continent. We the people of Africamustbe self monitoringtoour leaders at all levelssothattheycan reach the needsof us. To keepourleadersmostlyontoes, pastand presentAfricaleaderswithgoodleadership skillsmustput strongconcrete structuresfor Africanleadersof poorleadership. If Africansleadersdoesnotdelivers whatthe people needlike justice anddignity, respecthumanandcivil right, promote policiesthatcan eradicate povertyandmostall oppose corruption, theymustfeel the painof the lawsthatgovernsthe goodleadershipunion.
