5. This young man, born and bred in Springfontein, Free State, went to Cape Town to get a better education, well
that’s what my parents thought, and little did they know that their little boy was on a mission of his own. My
parent’s didn't approve of this whole dj concept but I was about to convince them otherwise. I have always
known that I'd be in the music industry, but I didn't know where. I adopted my love for music through my
parents who are jazz enthusiasts. Everyday after school I would practice mixing beats for at least 3-4 hours a
day, putting mix tapes together for close friends and family, whilst trying to keep abreast of my studies as well.
Joining Ratanang Entertainment was one of the wisest choices I made, career wise. To form a great platform, I
got exposed to bigger events and even landed My own gigs. My big break came when I performed at an event
which was held at The Ostrich Farm, spinning the decks creating magic, the dance floor was sizzling and it was
madness. Things went uphill from then. From getting bookings for matric ball after parties, club events to local
house parties, it was hectic but I loved it. I dj Wonder shared sets with well known Dj’s in the industry and even
started promoting for Companies such as Brand house (Smirnoff) and Distell (Savanna), I was living my dream.
I later decided to branch out of Ratanang and do my own thing as I had formed my own fan base and was willing
to take the risk. Gone solo, I convinced the local radio stations like UCT radio, Bush radio and Good Hope FM
(cape town radio stations) to air my mix tapes, fortunately I succeeded and that gained me a lot of exposure
and bookings. I Launched a project called The Usual Suspects which aimed at growing upcoming Dj’s and
performing quality events which brought me a lot of attention and business.
DJ Wonder also has been interviewed and made appearance on cape town local news paper (CITY
VISION),national magazines (BPM MAG) also on the youth show (hectic nine9) on SABC 2, also 1 of the Top 100
djs (SAdjmag Top 100 category) 2012 . I've played amongst big names in the music industry such as Fistaz
Mixwell, DJ Bongs,DJ Kent, DJ Tira, Black Coffee, Culoe de song, Shota, Bucie, Teargas and many more. I've
played for big clubs and well known venues in the mother city (Cape Town) as well as, Paarl, Stellenbosch,
Worcester, Bloemfontein, Springfontein (free state) Ermelo (Mpumalanga) Johannesburg and Pretoria (Gauteng)
My plan is to go national even Global as time goes and Grow my DJ Brand.
What makes me different from other Djs? Well I'll tell you that my hunger, drive and passion for music puts me
above my peers. Putting all of this into account, believe me when I say I 'am here to change the landscape of the
entertainment industry.
