Items are prepared for shipment by the originator and transported by either military or civilian carriers to their final destination. The transportation is managed by the Transportation Management Office who tracks the items as they move between transfer points. If an item is lost during shipment by the military, the Logistics Manager initiates a claim process and works with government and equipment representatives to determine the appropriate course of action. For civilian carrier losses, the originator also starts a claim process and updates inventory records after receiving any reimbursements or replacing lost assets. Current issues include a lack of feedback in the process and not accounting for replacement costs.
