2. Cordelia Bust.
This bust was inspired by my home,
Seattle. The red tentacles were inspired
by the aquatic life and the grey / silver
skies. I used calligraphy ink, pearls and
glass beads as accents.
3. Mishee Bust.
Another bust salvaged from the garbage
and after I painted the bust, I hand
beaded the decolletage for a finishing
touch using glass beads and pearls. My
inspiration was from Asian calligraphy
and paintings.
4. Mother of Pearl Bust.
The bust was salvaged from the
garbage and I decided to use calligraphy
ink and marker to show a natural shape
and enhance the colors with linework.
5. Mistress of the Sea
Layered ink encompassing a face with
octopus tentacles. The inspiration came
from New England and the fishing
industry.
7. The Fox, 2016.
Calligraphy ink layered multiple times to show
highlights and deep shadows. The goal was to
offer contour and shape as if it were clay or stone.
The different inks give the depth as well as the
highlights ultimately showing an alternate view of
the Fox profile.
9. Inkers.
This is an extended version of character
development. The calligraphy ink is
layered for the highlights and color
depth. I would throw or bleed the
calligraphy in and when the ink dried, I
would search for faces and objects to fill
spaces.
