1. CHRISTIAN UNITY AND
PROGRESS

2. Through the night of doubt and sorrow

3. Onward goes the pilgrim band,

4. Singing songs of expectation,

5. Marching to the promised land.

6. Clear before us through the darkness

7. Gleams and burns the guiding light;

8. Pilgrim clasps the hand of pilgrim,

9. Stepping fearless through the night.

10. One the light of God's own presence

11. O'er his ransomed people shed,

12. Chasing far the gloom and terror,

13. Brightening all the path we tread:

14. One the object of our journey,

15. One the faith which never tires,

16. One the earnest looking forward,

17. One the hope our God inspires:

18. One the strain that lips of thousands

19. Lift as from the heart of one;

20. One the conflict, one the peril,

21. One the march in God begun:

22. One the gladness of rejoicing

23. On the far eternal shore,

24. Where the one almighty Father

25. Reigns in love for evermore.

26. Onward, therefore, Christian pilgrims,

27. Onward with the cross our aid;

28. Bear its shame, and fight its battle,

29. Till we rest beneath its shade.

30. Soon shall come the great awaking,

31. Soon the rending of the tomb;

32. Then the scattering of all shadows,
