Philosophy of the game
Their philosophy is based on a system with three players in ther defensive line,
allowing them more control on their half of the field and organization from the
back, but also to play directly if needed to the two players up front. The main
element they look upfront are quick attacks. They have scored more goals from
counter attacks than from positional ones, being only one of two such teams in the
league. But while the other team, Saraburi naturally is forced to counter attacks,
with 45%, Buriram have scored 13 goals after counter attacks with 57%. That means
they are able to surprise upon recovering the ball even deep-positioned teams .
While organizaing their attacks all of their midfielders are positioned narrow, trying
to build through central areas, but in case the opponents narrow their lines in order
to block further movement, they will exploit wide areas attacking by wing-backs.
Most of their attacks per match are organized down the flanks. Offside traps are set
frequently throughout the match.
Chances for the opponent
Most vulnerable periods of their game are opening 15 and closing 15 minutes of
the game. It was noticed that they have problems during defending attacks that go
through central areas of their defensive organization, which is why they tend to
direct opponents towards the touchline to activate their pressing traps in order to
regain possession. Their attacking midfielder didn't track back on time in numerous
situations to provide help for his teammates, which leaves their midfield
overloaded and outplayed.
Threats for the opponent
Buriram is a team that is extremely dangerous on the counter-attack, as their
transition phases are very fast due to 2 or 3 players always staying up front. Late
dropping deep from their attacking midfielder is a vulnerability defensively, but as
soon as transition is organized they become a real threat. As the movement in
attacking zones is very intensive, they are likely to look for crucial passes on the
whole width of the pitch, even from very wide ones, as wing-backs are very
offensive-mided during creation of attacks.
