TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
21 July 2016
It is my pleasure to write this reference report on behalf of Melody Williams who currently serves
as the public relations and events coordinator in the Institutional Advancement Office of the
University of the Western Cape. I am Director of the UWC Science Learning Centre for Africa
(UWC-SLCA) that conducts outreach projects in support of the teaching and learning of science
and mathematics. As part of its work the centre hosts various events that encompasses small
(~300 people) to large scale projects (~5000 people). It is during the large scale events that
Melody’s expertise and experience are called upon to support the existing staff of UWC-SLCA.
Melody’s efficiency and capability of dealing with people at various levels are truly outstanding.
She has mastered the art of effective communication to ensure that everyone understands what
their roles are and what is to be expected at an event. She is a meticulous planner who tackles
every task, no matter how onerous, with vigour and enthusiasm. She has worked with us on
events at the highest level which included political dignitaries such as the RSA President and
Deputy President and various cabinet ministers. She has successfully coordinated academic
events, conferences and various fundraising activities. She has a clear understanding of issues of
protocol, management and design of events.
Melody is a seasoned professional in the events management arena; one who combines
diplomacy and firmness around decision-making and allows everyone to understand the
parameters in which an event can take place. She combines a very pragmatic approach to her
work with a good sense of humour. She is diligent, dedicated and willing to go the extra mile to
ensure that the event is a success. To this end Melody will be seen until late in the evening before
the event to ensure that every aspect of the plan and contingency measures are catered for.
I recommend Melody without hesitation. She brings with her the necessary skills, expertise and
experience to make a success of the position and she will be an invaluable asset to your
organisation. You are welcome to contact me should additional information be required.
