OVERVIEW
Sales of new single‐family
houses in March 2014 were
at a seasonally adjusted
annual rate of 384,000,
according to estimates
released jointly today by the
U.S. Census Bureau and the
Department of Housing and
Urban Development.
This is 14.5% below the
revised February rate of
449,000 and is 13.3% below
the March 2013 estimate of
443,000.
Even with the increase in
sales over the last two
years, new home sales are
still near the bottom for
previous recessions.
2. Housing Starts: Total and One Unit Structures
OVERVIEW
The housing start total and
one unit structure numbers
were below expectations of
965,000 starts in March.
The graph shows that housing
starts have been increasing
after moving sideways for
about two and a half years.
