It is the latest endeavour by the massive social network to outfit the planet with access to the web. This week, Facebook announced it is connected to 2 billion Internet users, USA TODAY reported. It's now aiming to reach the two-thirds of the world's population that is not connected online.
2. INTRODUCTION
The Drone-Dubbed-Aquila-is
part of Facebook’s plan to extend
Web access to what it estimates
are 1.1 billion people without it
today.
Like google , Facebook is
Experimenting with delivering
internet access to people
unlikely to be served by
Traditional landlines or cellular
networks.
3. ORIGIN
Facebook’s Internet.org Project aims to bring
Internet access to parts of the world where
people have little or no access to Internet.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the completion
of Aquila ,Facebook’s first full-scale aircraft
designed to deliver wireless internet access.
Aquila is also a constellation ,named after the
bird that carried zeus’ thunderbolts to battle in
Greco-Roman mythology. Facebook will not be
dealing with the customers directly,instead
partnering with local ISPs to offer the services.
4. What Facebook Drone is?
AQUILA which has the wingspan
of a boeing 737kg but weights
only as much as a car will be able
to fly for 3 months without
landing.
It will project a laser that can
transmit data to other aircrafts
and a signal that will be received
by small towers and dishes on the
ground within 50 kilometer. The
antennas will then convert the
signal into Wi-Fi or4G Networks.
5. Architecture of
FD
A laser that can deliver data at 10s of Gb per
second - approximately 10x faster to a
target from more than 10 miles away.
They also will have to be powered by the
sun to continuously provide Wi-Fi coverage.
Each Aquila drone will carry radio
equipment to provide broadband
connectivity to satellite receivers inside a
roughly 50-mile radius on the ground
below.
6. Aquila, as the V-shaped carbon fiber craft is known, is powered by
two propellers and has a wingspan of about 42 meters, roughly
equivalent to a Boeing 737 airliner.
8. Google Baloon Internet
Google’s Baloon internet is a Balloon-powered Internet for
Everyone. Google’s Loon Project was launched on June 2013, where,
Facebook Drone launched on 30 July 2015. The aircraft in the
network distribute signals to increase range.
9. Applications of Facebook Drone
According to the U.N.’s International Union
,43.4% of the world’s population does’nt use
the Internet,so for this Drone will found
great applications.
Our Drone will use Laser to Deliver 10Gbps
Internet access.Obviously, that 10Gbps
would be shared among multiple users &
could connect a lot of people to the internet.
10. CONCLUSION
The idea is that Facebook will create aerial chains with the drones
to link several rural areas to the Internet.
Facebook has not yet flown the recently completed craft but has
been testing one-tenth scale versions over the U.K. since March.
The full-size Aquila is undergoing structural tests and should begin
flight tests before the end of this year.
Facebook’s vice president Jay Parikh said: “Our mission in the
company is to connect everybody in the world.”
