To Whom It May Concern:
As the Director of Content at Worldreader, I can attest to Mea’s professionalism, leadership,
tenacity and enthusiasm while she worked as an International Business Development Consultant on
a case study project.
Worldreader is an international non-profit located in over 50 countries which works to bring digital
books to readers across the global so that they can improve their lives and increase literacy.
Though we use myriad platforms to deliver digital books, we commenced publishing digital books
from our African publishers on Amazon.com. In addition to helping us get books to our target
audience (students reading in low income schools and libraries in Sub Saharan Africa) it also made
books that might never have been read outside of Africa available to more affluent readers in North
America and Europe. The main problem was that North Americans and Europeans were not buying
the books.
Mea worked with a team of four individuals to devise a plan to increase the sales of our African
books, if given a very small (hypothetical) budget of $10,000. Her team spent several months
researching the book market and putting together a series of recommendations for Worldreader as
well as implementation measures. These recommendations were delivered via a midterm and final
presentation.
I found the recommendations from Mea’s team to be innovative, and the scope of research and
thinking they were able to bring to a problem in the context of a complicated industry (publishing)
refreshing. Mea was a great, natural presenter who was excellent at keeping the team on track,
ensuring feedback was given and then incorporated. She definitely set the tone for the level of
professionalism at the meetings and presentations. It was also clear to me that she had a lot of
experience organizing events and finding a way to do really impactful things on small budgets,
which is not an easy task. It’s worth noting that she was not explicitly assigned the role of team
leader, but that based on her comportment, professionalism and ease with leadership, she easily
won that role for herself.
On a personal level, I found Mea to be fearless and enthusiastic, characteristics that I believe, in
combination with her ability to manage a team, will contribute greatly to her success in whatever
she chooses to apply herself to.
