The document describes HeartCheck, an unofficial Android app created by Mauro Papa and Maria Palma to continuously monitor heart rate using the Xiaomi Mi Band Pulse activity tracker. Existing Mi Band apps only allow on-demand heart rate checks, so HeartCheck aims to reduce response time for heart attacks by live monitoring heart rate throughout daily activities. Developing the app presented challenges as Xiaomi did not release an official SDK and reliably detecting heart attacks solely from heart rate data can be difficult.
