3. 212 DEGREES
THE CONTINUAL APPLICATION OF HEAT (EFFORT) TO
WHATEVER TASK OR ACTIVITY YOU UNDERTAKE IN
ORDER TO ACHIEVE NOT ONLY THE PRIMARY
OBJECTIVE YOU SEEK, BUT TO REAP THE
EXPONENTIAL REWARDS THAT ARE POSSIBLE BY
APPLYING ONE EXTRA DEGREE OF EFFORT.

4. MAN IS MADE SO THAT
WHENEVER ANYTHING
FIRES HIS SOUL,
IMPOSSIBILITIES VANISH.
~ Jean La Fontaine

5. ▪ BEFORE ANYTHING CAN EVER
BE ACCOMPLISHED, ONE
MUST FIRST KNOW THAT
HE/SHE CAN DO IT.
“Whether you think you can or whether you
think you can't, you're right.”
~Henry Ford
5
6. IN MANY CASES, PEOPLE WILL WORK
HARDER TO AVOID THE EXTRA EFFORT THAN
ACTUALLY APPLYING THE EXTRA EFFORT
THAT WILL PRODUCE THE DESIRED
OUTCOME.
ACTION IS THE MISSING INGREDIENT.
6
7. NOW YOU ARE AWARE OF 212 – THE EXTRA DEGREE.
NO LONGER WILL YOU BE ABLE TO DO ONLY WHAT IS
REQUIRED AND EXPECTED OF YOU.
WITH AWARENESS COMES RESPONSIBILITY.
YOU NOW HAVE A TARGET FOR EVERYTHING.
“FLAMING ENTHUSIASM, BACKED BY HORSE SENSE AND
PERSISTENCE, IS THE QUALITY THAT MOST FREQUENTLY
MAKES FOR SUCCESS.”
~DALE CARNEGIE 7

12. At work…
Make one extra contact each day, a sales
call, a customer, a discussion with a
colleague, a word of encouragement to a
team member.
At the end of the year, you will have opened
more than 200 additional doors of
possibility.
12
13. As a manager…
Your role is to encourage and develop others to
succeed by doing the right tasks at the right time.
Every day, every week, every month.
Acknowledge and apologize for one or more of your
mistakes each week to create 50 more opportunities
for trust and authenticity each year.
Thank someone once more each day and show
appreciation over 200 more times each year.
13
14. Set your alarm 10 minutes earlier and add 10
minutes to your life each day, an hour a week, 4
hours a month, 2 days per year.
Someone struggles-you help. A door needs
opening-open it.
A piece of trash on the ground-pick it up. A child
needs attention-give it. A job needs doing-do it!
14
15. Stop complaining. About the weather, the
traffic, your boss, a customer.
Complaining once less each day removes 365
seeds of negativity each year.
No excuses! We find the time and resources to
do the things that really matter to us.
15
16. Prune the diversions.
You have goals. You have time. You have
energy.

more than 100 distractions each year that keep
you from reaching your goals.

without losing your enthusiasm.”
~Sir Winston Churchill

Here at Best Buy Metals, we all work hard. But if we are truly honest with ourselves, even in the busiest days, there are still moments of inactivity, unproductiveness, and idleness. What would happen if we harnessed those moments and used them to do something good, productive, and positive?
Every day is a race. If we are alive, we are all running in it.
Our goal is not to merely survive the race and finish the day.
Our goal is to run in such a way as to win the prize!
Motivation is the great equalizer. It is what urges men to do what is beyond their normal capacities.
It is what drives them to relentlessly pursue their goal and never give up despite obstacles they may encounter.
It is what makes ordinary men, extraordinary. It is the single differentiator between defeated and defiant, hopeless and hero.
Not think, not hope. KNOW!
Action = Traction
Activity creates opportunity
Any good teammate does the minimum required. Champions are always asking, “What else?”
With awareness comes responsibility to act. We have all now been made aware. We must act.
Let’s look at a few examples of the miniscule margin between first and second place in the world of sports. However, pay special attention to the difference in reward for each.
The Masters, U.S. Open, The British Open, and the PGA.
The KY Derby, The Belmont, and the Preakness
Now, let’s look at the application to what we do every day.
Consistency is the key! Remember the definition. The continual application of heat….
It can be something we just do every once in a while. It has to become who we are.
Do this once per week and add 52 acts of kindness and inspiration each year.
And oh, by the way, people will notice.
There are two types of people. Those who make excuses for why we can’t do it or those who do whatever it takes to make it happen.
Pull the hurdles off the track. Remove the obstacles to success.
Decide what really matters to you.
Love what you do or don’t do it! Be passionate about it! Most of all, have fun doing it!
