STRIKE FIGHTER THIS WEEK
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(GRIMSBY, ON November 9, 2011) -- Thomas Beach, President of Handling Specialty Manufacturing
Ltd., was invited by defence giant Lockheed Martin and the Ontario Aerospace Council (OAC) to share
his company’s experiences working with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program at an event on Nov.
9, 2011 targeted to aerospace companies in Ontario.
The event, organized by the Ontario Aerospace Council in conjunction with the Federal Economic
Development Agency for Southern Ontario, was developed to inform aerospace companies in Ontario
about the business opportunities available for Canadian companies with the JSF program.
Handling Specialty, located in Grimsby, Ontario, has over 45 years experience in the custom design and
manufacture of material handling systems for demanding applications. The company has worked
successfully with Lockheed Martin and the
JSF program for several years, beginning with
a $3 million (US) contract awarded to
Handling Specialty in 2003 for the engineering
and manufacture of vertical assembly stations
to assist in the production of the F-35 wing.
“Handling Specialty’s involvement with the
JSF Program has been extremely positive,”
notes Mr. Beach. “In the years since our first
contract, Handling Specialty has reaped the
benefits of our association with the program
and Lockheed Martin. For a SME (small-to-
medium sized) business such as ours,
working with such a high profile program has
allowed us the opportunity to work with other
large name customers, and has increased our Handling Specialty Manufacturing Ltd., in Grimsby,
company’s presence internationally.” Ontario, engineered and designed this wing assembly
station for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.
“We look forward to our continued business
relationship with the JSF program and Lockheed Martin, and to the success of the F-35 program,” says
Mr. Beach.
According to the meeting press release, “The F-35 JSF program has provided unprecedented access to a
significant multinational defence program for companies across Canada, including small and medium
enterprises. To date, approximately 65 Canadian companies have received over US$370 million in
contracts.”
