Projects
1996 Wrote math curriculum for the City Colleges of Chicago, Adult Education,
1997 Reviewed and revised entire Adult Education curriculum for City Colleges,
2000 Directed contract for United States Post Office, writing curriculum/training manual
on Workers with Disabilities.
1999-2001 Consulted with the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) during the transition
of Adult Education management and funds from the Illinois State Board of
Education to the Illinois Community College Board. In this capacity, I provided
leadership to the six other consultants making recommendations regarding fiscal,
program, and management concerns to the ICCB office and assisted in the fiscal
and policy planning for the state for integrating adult education into the ICCB
governing system.
2004-2008 Special grants developing English as a second language support services for
students entering career field in HVAC, nursing, automotive, and business office
skills.
3. Professional Responsibilities
Adult Basic Education, GED, and ESL
Through federal and state grants this program serves 6846 students a year with a budget
of 3 million dollars and a staff of two associate deans, 6 full time tenured faculty, 160 part
time teachers, 150 active volunteers, five clerical and 8 specialists. Programs include Adult
Basic Education, GED, Spanish GED, High School completion, ESL, Intensive ESL,
Welfare to Work, Family Literacy, and Volunteer Literacy programs. Recent recognition
for the department includes participation family literacy of non native speakers, Shifting
Gears Grant and CSSI grants for contextualized learning in career programs, and
recognition by the Council for Advancement of Adult Literacy for promising practices in
