to get noticed in today’s cluttered job environment
• Identifying barriers that exist in each area and putting plans
in place to overcome them are critical to being successful.
• Interviews are getting harder to get and competition for
places is at a premium. You must be very well prepared!
• Ensure you are confident in
each of the above strategies
so that you can climb the next

17. 2013 is Almost Over
What’s the next 3 months going to look like for
your career?
18.
19. Self Awareness
Create your mission statement for yourself for the rest of
2013
“I want to keep focused on taking small steps to help me
improve my ability to get noticed, perform well at
interviews and learn new skills while I’m looking for my
next job”
Or
“Develop another set of skills that will benefit my career
and allow me to look back at my performance and
recognise what I achieved”
Think Act Work Live Better
20. Look at yourself from the other side of the table
• What do other people see online, on your CV, Cover Letter, Linked In
Profile, FB Page or Twitter Account etc?
• What’s the objective of your CV & Social Media Profiles?
• Does it accurately reflect where you can add value to the employer or
tell them where you have worked and what you have done?
• Do you really know what are the key points that the interviewer is
looking for you to solve?
• This is a constant issue for people to deal with.
21. What are you prepared to change in order to get it?
•
•
•

potential employer?
Versus

24. Attitude Case Study

• Same guy 3 months later approached same
multinational and got hired.
25. 2. Know real reason why CV / Profile is so
important
26. Where does my CV go when I email it?

• Don’t lie on it & know it inside out
• Remember the word Explain!
31. Social Networking Strategy

Editor's Notes
Put up role on paper
Job-seekers need to be highly competitive. Some of your colleagues or competitors who are working got it through a number of different options. Luck is a part, being in the right place at the right time is a part, but planning is critical to Suceed. And although getting emplyed is probably your primary goal right now, the strategies for how employees can improve their performance will help you also, again sooner rather than later.Next Slide - How can you benefit from this talk?
Who here can really say their CV created a really positive response from a stranger?Either way, no matter where it goes, the one and only thing you can be sure of is you’ve lost control of your application. So before you press send, think a bit differently about how you can get your cv noticed. Anyone use their ears when they are reading a job application. Might be worth looking at that - Covey’s habit, seek first to understand before being understood. As questions of audience? Do I really understand what this organisation is looking for and why are they recruiting? Does my CV send them an instant message as to what I can contribute for them? If I’m not sure, how can i get these answers.Example of style of recruiting, not so common here, but popular in the UK & US. Executive Search of Head Hunting. Eg. Lets say I am looking for an RF engineer..web, linked in, fb, database, network...still nothing. Competitors – draw out map. Ask for post room – looking for john in design – dont have a jon, have atom or billy or peter....thank you very much. Always a way of getting information. How do detectives get to solve cases – waiting for someone to come in and say – i did it?Next Slide. Case study based on your side of the table. How do you create that response?
Product Definition – if you don’t know it, how can you explain it let alone sell it. Would you buy something if you didn’t know what it did?Value add – some of you have degrees, some two, some none, now think of an apple on top of a box of oranges. Was it education, experience, adding value, all 3What made the apple stand out?Research – use your technical skills, your attitude and other traits that you have in you but haven’t used. Part of the brief in the recruiting game is exec search. Different to recruiting because its a no foal – no fee game. Exec search is differnt. I’m given nothing, and have to find people. Very interesting, cunning, deceitful, information gathering, knowledge acquisition, knoweldge gives me some control.Go to Market - have a consistent message across everyone you meet so there is consistency with what you are saying to people. You may to meet / talk to several people before the key decision maker.GE 22 pages of interview questions done for interviewNext Side intro where do jobs come from
Linked In- Keep updating your profile – write an article. Engage with someone in your target company. Get an introduction.Facebook - Don’t have pics that cause supicision or if you have a sense of humour that doesn’t resonate well with strangers.
Complete your Profile – 85% minimum (Users with complete profiles are 40 times more likely to receive opportunities through LinkedIn!)
Pretty clear in what these techniques stand forNext is example
Next is answer
Next is type of competeny required
Sample of Key Competencies Required?Anyone KISS lately? Steve Jobs /Bill Gates
Why?Need a volunteer. Who likesiphones..would love to work for Apple. Love to..enough that they would give me their iphone if I was to get them an interview.Steve Jobs Apple – Recruiting Favourite JobYou’ve sent your CV in amonth ago and you haven’t heard anything. Get a call to say...hi, this is melone from Apple and we would like you to meet Steve Jobs, Friday morning at 9am in The Savoy Hotel Limerick....Are you ready? Really ready?Overprepare then go with the flow.Do you know all the answers to likely questions? If not, you haven’t been Kissing or maybe you have, but your level of what you think is right, is not what I, steve jobs or Dell are looking for? How can you do this?Does anyone remember the safe cross code song – let all points open on screen first before clicking icon
Draw corcle with dot in middle
Brand – Nike, McDonalds, Coke?Think the other side of the tableGet practice on interviews..don’t leave it to chance. Remmeber 2005/6 when you came into college, you couldnt have written whas was going to have happened in 2008.Offline – company sites, blogs, investor sites, set up trackers or their symbol, agencies, papers,
