Strategic Planning Process
We are fortunate to have a number of seasoned members on our current Board of Directors. Each of them brings a vast amount of
experiences from the professional and volunteer sector. As such, we entered our strategic planning process with a breadth of
strategic planning experience.
The Board of Directors believed it was important to take a structured approach to the strategic planning process and involve as
many interested parties as possible. The following graphic depicts the Strategic Planning process we followed to develop the plans
that follow:

Major Strategic Initiative (MSI) Candidates
We used an affinity process to identify as many solutions as possible. The group distilled the ideas into 9 major strategic initiatives
as follows:
1. Identify/connect with senior management
2. Chapter administration
3. Web presence
4. School outreach
5. Community service
6. Outreach
7. Increase/broaden presence
8. Assist members in transition
9. Partner with other associations
Before our final meeting, each member of the Board received a strategic plan survey. Those surveyed were asked to identify the top
three MSI candidates that would favorably impact each of the following objectives:
1. To continually have year-over-year growth in our membership
2. To increase and enhance members’ participation
3. To expand the market awareness of APICS and the Piedmont Triad Chapter

A subgroup proposed the following actions for inclusion in the 2011-2012 Operating and Marketing Plan:
1) Evaluate whether to stay with iChapter or move to another website program. The team suggests surveying the other chapters in
the Southeast District to understand what website programs they use. If a large percentage of the chapters use iChapter, they
could leverage their strength together to push iChapter to fix the program’s bugs and improve their product. The survey could
also provide insight into what other website programs are available.
2) The team should also ask APICS headquarters if it has a website program recommendation.
3) Regardless of the program being used, the website should contain current chapter information including the by-laws, identity
statement, vision, mission, event schedules and a list of board members (with their pictures if they agree).
4) The website should also contain a Board member login and chapter board document storage. Additionally, it should be
technologically up-to-date with features such as links to social networking and a hit tracker.
