2. Blue planet II
◦ This documentary was as aired on BBC
One in 2017.
◦ It was composed by George Fenton and
narrated by Divid Attenborough.
◦ The mode of this documentary involved
poetic and expository modes.
◦ Looks at animal lives in oceans and how it's
changing.
3. EXPLORATION
◦ In these two shots of the documentary, you can
clearly see that the documentary will involve
poetic mode.
◦ It is playing with different angles, and on the idea
on how it might appear to a viewer, what might
they think of this shot.
◦ In the first still, you can see that the shot
involves half earth and half water shot. In this
little sequence we are shown a calm water are, and
when it goes into the water, we see the starfishes
and their everyday lives.
◦ This might suggest that we might see one thing,
but underneath it there's a whole new world.
◦ The second show is a very poetic long shot. It
exposes us to a view of very powerful ocean,
which a dark mise-en-scene, but in the middle of
it there's a dolphin, which is considered to be a
very happy and playful animal.
◦ This might suggest that even though something
might look scary, for the ocean animas is just
everyday life.
4. Exploration
◦ These two shots are very beautiful long/exreme
long shots. They represent the idea on how
reductionist the ocean life is, but if you look at the
bigger picture you might see it in a very holistic
perception.
◦ The colours in the first picture are very interning.
The lighting is hight key, although the fish circle
creates a low key light and a very bright dot at
the middle. This might represent and eye.
◦ In the second still we see the colour coordinate
between the sand and the turtles. The meaning
behind this is to show that there are so many
turtles here, however thy are dying because of
how people treat the planet earth.
5. Super size me
◦ This documentary by Morgan Spurlock was done in 2004.
◦ The aim of this documentary is to show the people on what eating
junk food does to your system.
◦ As a result, the then-32-year-old Spurlock gained 11.1 kilograms
(24 lb), a 13% body mass increase, increased his cholesterol to
230 mg/dL, and experienced mood swings, sexual dysfunction,
and fat accumulation in his liver.
◦ It took Spurlock fourteen months to lose all the weight gained
from his experiment using a vegan diet supervised by his then-
girlfriend, a chef who specializes in gourmet vegan dishes.
6. Exploration
◦ This still uses a mid/close up shot. This makes
the viewer focus on the frame persons
emotions.
◦ He appears to be worried or very focused on
the converstaion.
◦ The same thing is with the second picture with
a woman in it. She looks smart dressed and the
misse-en-scene set up her to look smart and
profetional at her job. It's a quite interesting to
see the maker to present her in this way
because she is representing the company that
they are making the documentary about.
