2. Case
The Dominican Republic in August arrested a former defense minister and three
others, suspect of accepting a $3.5 million bribe from Embraer in exchange for
placing an order for military aircraft.
The captures were part of an investigation by U.S. and Brazilian establishments into
the 2009 purchase of eight Super Tucano turboprop planes for $94 million. The
Dominican government said it used the aircraft to battle aerial drops of drugs from
South America.

3. Agreements
• With the free trades that Embraer has as:
• An agreement on trade and economic cooperation (subsequently signed during the visit).
• A start to discussions on a free trade agreement between the United States and Brazil.
• Participation of the United States in major Brazilian infrastructure projects through incentives and
guarantees, improved bidding policies on public projects, and the freer movement of service
providers—such as architects and engineers—between the two countries
• United States can stop using this agreements if they find the proofs of that bribery
case of Embraer, which it may provoke problems in Embraer economy’s.
