2. Central Idea
If the government is for the people then one
measure they should do to protect public health is
to make FDA regulate dietary supplement.
3. Supporting Points
Poor regulation of supplements.
FDA does not want to lose or spend money.
Have a non-federal (independent) agency that
regulates dietary supplements for the good of
public health regardless of the cost.
4. Problem: Poor regulation of
supplements
The FDA does not regulate supplements.
FDA is not funded well enough to cover all safety
hazards of dietary supplements.
Supplements that are being distributed without a
proper background check could possibly result in
consumer health problems. (2011, By: David
Kessler)
5. Cause: FDA and Money
The FDA does not want to spend money and save lives.
FDA wont remove the supplement off the market unless
it has caused health problems to a majority of
consumers.( 2011, by Suzanne Robin)
FDA does not test the supplements, and takes the word
of the producer of all the ingredients that are listed on
the back of the bottle. (2011, by Suzanne Robin)
6. Solution: Independent Agency
Non-federal independent agency
This agency sole purpose is to ensure that
supplements being sold in stores are safe to peoples
health.
This way the FDA can not allow health threatening
supplements to be distributed to the people.
