1. Prior to attending North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, I was attending Salem
College where I was majoring in education to become an elementary school teacher. While in this
program, I was assigned at a school where I had to student teach for the semesterto a second grade
class. Below, there are two pictures that shows the classroom that I student taught in while at Salem
where one shows the classroom from an angle view and the other shows a wall with hooks where the kids
hung their belongings.However, while doing my student teaching, I beganto realize that I wanted to
challenge myself in a field of study that would make me think cognitively and make a change in the world.
Although I had a passionfor teaching the newer generation, but I came to the realization that I wanted to
become anengineer especially after taken my senior seminar course in undergrad.
Once transferring from Salem to North Carolina A&T State University to study industrial &
systems engineering, I struggled a bit in the first semester because I had not done math in sevenyears.
Even though I had a decent semester, I felt that I had the potential to do better for the following semester
and that is exactly what I did. I can say that my transition from one institution to another has enabled me
to embrace change because I have really grown to be a more confident student when it comes to my
studies. It has also helped me to embrace change because I have had the opportunity to engage with
others who are from different ethnicities and other places whether in the United States or from other
countries. Overall, I have embrace this change by ensuring that I am always going the extra mile to excel
at all my goals especially becoming a future engineer.
