3. CHEMICAL REACTIONS
It is the process in which two or more substances (reactants) are
converted into one or more than one product. The property of the new
product is fully different from the property of the reactants.
This image is showing rusting of a iron nail.
Rust always form on the surface of iron.
It is formed due to the oxidation of iron.
4. RUST
• Fe2O3·xH2O
• The chemical name of rust is Iron Oxide.
• Here Fe2O3 is Ferric Oxide and ·xH2O is the Water of Crystallization.
It is a reddish-brown substance which
forms a layer on the surface of iron when
contact with air and moisture.
5. SOME DAILY LIFE CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Some daily life chemical reactions are:-
• Digestion
• Combustion
• Photosynthesis
• Respiration
7. WHAT IS A BALANCED EQUATION ?
It is an equation for a chemical reaction in which the number of atom of
an element and total mass is the same for both the reactant and the
product.
8. WHY IS BALANCING IMPORTANT ?
A chemical equation should always be balanced because the Law of
Conservation of Mass which states matter can neither be created nor
destroyed.
9. TYPES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS
6 primary chemical reactions are:-
Combination Reaction
Decomposition Reaction
Displacement Reaction
Double Displacement Reaction
Precipitation Reaction
Acid – Base Reaction
10. COMBINATION REACTION
It is a chemical reaction in which two reactants combine together to
form a new product.
11. DECOMPOSITION REACTION
It is a chemical reaction in which the product breaks down into two or
more reactants.
