Thank you for having me. It’s nice to be back in my old stomping grounds.
Over the past 9 ¾ years I’ve been writing a an online weblog called This I My Life. More commonly known as a blog these days. I started it as a way to keep more memories and it’s totally worked. I’ve documented people, places, things, and thoughts and shared them with the world.
I started blogging before it was a thing, before Twitter and Instagram. It was the MySpace era.
I always wanted to be in the spotlight, but never did I ever imagine all this awesomeness would come from starting a blog. Fashion Magazine called me a social media star, I’ve been features in the Wall Street Journal, Canadian Business Magazine been on tv, and in movies.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the worlds top brands like Pepsi, Puma, Virgin America, and travel so some incredibly awesome places like Thailand, Costa Rica, and New Zealand. I used my blog as a platform to show what I was good at and tell people stories. I’m going to share a couple of those stories for 20 minutes then I would love to have a chat with you.
A big part of why I have my blog is to keep memories but in 2008 the world of social media expanded, there was a race between Ashton Kutcher & Larry King to a million followers and brands started catching on to Twitter a conversation platform.
I started getting pitches from PR agencies and people were starting to realise I had a voice. Being at the forefront of lifestyle blogging has brount some amazing experienes.
When I was 25 I set a goal to have my school paid off, be an independent worker, and visit New Zealand by the time I was 30. When I was 28, and working from home doing freelance writing and blog work I got an email from New Zealand Fashion Week that said “ Hi Casie, we would like to invite you to NZ as an international media. You’ll fly first class, have a driver, assistant and we’ll need a media kit for press and designers. I just about died. Rung Mum right away like OMG. With a partnership involving Air New Zealand and NZFW I lived the life of luxury and get them to extent my return trip so I could spend some time with family. It’s one of the most memorable thigs I’ve ever done.
Last summer I got an email from Disneyland PR inviting me to California. I didn’t think it was real. They were inviting me to spend 5 days, all expenses paid to visit Disneyland California. The trip was sponsored by LA Tourism and Disneyland. Not only would be get to visit the park, we were going to the OC, shopping at The Grove in Beverly Hills, and I could bring a friend.
