1. K-STATE STRENGTHSQUEST PEER COACHING
Getting To Know: Trevor Barnes
Background:
Your goal is to write a stream of consciousness narrative. Stream of consciousness, introduced
by psychologist William James in 1890, is a person’s thoughts and conscious reactions to events
in a continuous, uninterrupted flow. In other words, you are going to write down anything and
everything related to the prompt below in two minutes. It should sound similar to a journal entry.
Be sure to manage your Communication-the point is not to write beautiful, exact prose but to
get everything on paper.
Directions:
Make sure you are in a space where you won’t be distracted or interrupted for the next couple of
minutes. Get out your phone and open a timer. Set it for two minutes. As soon as the two minutes
start, you will concentrate only on the task at hand and getting out everything that enters your
head concerning your prompt. Do not read over or edit your writing once your timer ends.
Simply move onto the next activity.
