The 2-Liter Virus-Beater
Make a Face Shield at home in 30 minutes!
Face Shields can protect the user from contagious water
droplets expelled during talking, coughing, or even breathing.
Use this Face Shield at your own risk. No rights given or implied

What you need:
1. 2-Liter Soda Bottle (the cheap kind with flat sides)
2. T-Shirt
3. Stapler (with staples!)
4. Scissors
5. Marker
6. Ruler
7. Knife (optional)

How to make the Face Shield
Get rid of the Soda (it’s not good for you anyway!)
1. Pour all the Soda out of the 2-Liter Bottle
2. Rinse the 2-Liter Bottle out 2-3 times with soapy water
o Make sure the inside of the Bottle is clean!
Remove the Label
3. Carefully slide the Scissors under the label
o Remove the cap to make this step easier
4. Using the Scissors, cut all the way down the side of the label
o Careful not to scratch the 2-Liter Bottle too much!
5. Peel the cut label off the 2-Liter Bottle

6. Remove as much of the remaining label as you can
o Fingernails work great!
Measure & Cut the 2-Liter Bottle
7. Find the two “seams” running down the side of the bottle
o One “seam” is probably hiding under the label glue!

8. Draw a line 2.5 inches from the Bottle Cap, over one “seam”
o ***This line must be on the dirty side of the Bottle, over
the “seam” that was under the Label glue
9. On the opposite side, draw another line 1 inch from the
o ***This line must be over the “seam” that is on the clean
side of the Bottle without any Label or Label glue
10. Draw around the sides and connect the two lines

11. Draw a line around the bottom of the Bottle, 1/2 inch
from the “seam” running around the bottom of the Bottle
12. Carefully pierce the Bottle above the top line using the
scissors or knife (a knife is easier)
o **** BE VERY CAREFUL. DO NOT HOLD THE BOTTLE NEAR
THE SCISSORS OR KNIFE AS IT MAY SLIP AND CUT YOU!

13. Cut the top of the Bottle off, above the drawn top line
14. Carefully cut along the top line to finish the cut
15. Cut down the side of the Bottle on the side with the Label
glue (with the 2.5 inch mark). Cut past the bottom line.
o ***Do not make this cut on the clean side of the bottle
with the 1 inch mark!!

16. Remove the bottom of the Bottle by cutting along the
bottom line
17. There are now four sharp corners on the Bottle. Draw a
curve around each corner and cut it off to smooth the sharp
corners.

18. Your 2-Liter Bottle should now look like the picture below:
Measure & Cut the T-Shirt
19. Split the T-Shirt by making a cut all the way up the back
from the bottom up through the collar

20. Use the Ruler to measure a 4 inch wide strip along the
bottom of the T-Shirt
21. Make a series of marks at 4 inches and then connect them
into a solid line using the Ruler
22. Cut along the line to make a 4 inch wide strip of fabric
o Do this multiple times with one T-shirt!
23. Fold the strip of fabric in half over your and draw a line
down the middle to make a halfway mark

24. Your strip of fabric should look like the picture below:
Finishing the Face Shield
25. Place the strip of fabric on the inside of the Face Shield,
with the fabric hanging down into the Shield
26. Line up the halfway mark on the fabric with the “seam” in
the middle of the plastic

27. Align the edge of the fabric with the top edge of the plastic
28. Staple the fabric to the plastic once in the center

29. Continue stapling the top edge of the strip of fabric all the
way around the top edge of the plastic Face Shield
30. Your Face Shield is done!
Wearing the Face Shield
31. Flip the strip of fabric up over the staples
32. Grab each end of the strip of fabric and spread the plastic
Face Shield open
33. Place the Face Shield over your face so the strip of fabric
rests on your forehead
34. Tie the strip of fabric around your head like a bandana

Cleaning the Face Shield
35. The Face Shield may be contaminated after each use!
36. To clean the Face Shield, remove the strip of fabric by
bending and pulling out each staple
37. Clean the plastic Face Shield with soap and water or with
something like a Clorox wipe
38. Wash the strip of Fabric in the laundry
39. Re-staple the strip of fabric to the Face Shield
40. If the Face Shield becomes work out or too dirty to clean,
make another one!
