Job Responsibilities The scientist in this position is responsible for providing
targeted natural product chemical matter to R&D and
Pharma Industry programs by the application of molecular
biology and genetic engineering techniques, microbial
fermentation and chemical isolation.
Specifically-
- Cultivate microbial strains to produce desired secondary
metabolites.
- Isolate microbial natural products from fermentation broths
(sub-liter to multi- liter scale) by application of analytical
3. and preparative scale separations methods.
- Perform structure elucidation of natural products using UV
spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, mass
spectrometry, LCMS and other spectroscopic techniques.
- Work closely with NP team microbiologists, molecular
biologists and chemists in the design and execution of
experiments.
- Maintain a deep awareness of the scientific literature
surrounding bioactive natural products and work closely
with R&D project teams to leverage these for drug
discovery.
- Establish strong scientific recognition through the
publication/presentation of original research internally and
externally to R&D.
- Serve actively as a member of project teams.
Ph.D Experience: - Five years PhD. natural products biosynthesis
research Experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience surrounding
biosynthesis of natural products, fermentation processes
and microbial genomics.
- Solid expertise in molecular analytics.
- Demonstrated record of accomplishment in microbial
natural products Chemistry and in delivering natural
products leads in a drug discovery program.
Technical Skills:
- Proven track record of creative thinking in modern natural
products sciences, as demonstrated by publication.
- Expert understanding of the chemical literature.
