2. Metro Manila serves as the country’s main gateway to national destinations,
making it an important hub for the country’s booming tourist industry. The
majority of the international visitors arrive in the country via NAIA, the biggest
airport in the Philippines.
According to the Department of Tourism, international tourist arrivals increased

US, Japan and Australia. The highest number of tourist arrivals in 2018 was

Notable landmarks
Metro Manila boasts a UNESCO World Heritage Site and 45 other cultural heritage
landmarks located in the National Capital Region. Intramuros, Rizal Park and the
National Museum of Fine Arts are among these landmarks. Modern attractions
and entertainment hubs, such as Resorts World, City of Dreams, Solaire and
Okada Manila are also popular tourist spots.
3. Modes of transportation
Roughly 3 million vehicles travel in Metro Manila every day. Data from 2017
figures estimate that over 367,000 vehicles used EDSA, the most congested
major artery in the city. This accounted for 13.6% of the average daily traffic in
Metro Manila. Although private vehicles are the main users, over 130,000 buses
operate in the metro area.
Public jeepneys are another common mode of transportation. They are so iconic
that they are considered part of the Filipino culture. In 2016, however, the
Department of Transportation and Communications tried to phase out
jeepneysmore than 15 years old as part of their modernization project. The
scheme had limited success. Now, the authorities are introducing electric mini
buses to replace the older,smoke-belching vehicles.
Aside from jeepneys and buses, taxis and Tamaraw FX mini-vans are ready to
transport you around Manila. The light rail LRT and MRT, and the Philippines
National Railway system are undergoing expansion and improvements to cope
with the huge demand from commuters and other city travelers.
Other modes of transportation, such as car and van rentals also provide a
convenient and safe way to travel. The app hailing taxi service Grab, and the
motorcycle taxis from Angkas are also used to negotiate the city streets.
