1. Project Name: Liberal Arts Cultural Center Ambassador
1.) This PROMISE intern would work with our newest advisor in the College of Liberal Arts. This
advisor (we are in final interviews currently) has a dedicated portion of their FTE to creating and
enhancing connections with our cultural centers here at OSU and to enhance the College of
Liberal Arts’ profile in enhance equity and opportunity for traditionally under supported
students in our college and on campus. One especially captivating piece of this internship would
be in laying the groundwork to pilot a program in partnership with the Centro Cultural Cesar
Chavez, using Google apps like blogger or sites, to support students in creating e-portfolios. E-
portfolios are gaining national attention as a vehicle through which students can showcase their
college experience and notable activities as an addition to traditional resumes. While our
eventual plan would be to make e-portfolios available to all of our students we would like to
start by supporting our students who have been traditional disadvantaged in education and
hiring.
2.) This student would assist our new advisor, attend meetings with them, work on creating
timelines for project implementation, possibly recruit and engage with informal focus groups
and assist with outreach both the cultural centers as well as to students recruited for the pilot e-
portfolio program.
3.) Preferred qualifications for this internship would include familiarity with the cultural centers at
OSU and resources offered, demonstrable commitment to enhancing and promoting diversity.
Additionally experience with Google apps and/or wordpress or a like blogging platform is a plus.
4.) This project is geared toward developing and mentoring leaders in historically underrepresented
communities – reading the goals and values of PROMISE we realized that our project falls
perfectly in line with PROMISE.
5.) This intern would have regular meetings with their advisor, looking for areas of potential growth
and creating opportunities for our intern to engage with new experiences (like recruiting an
informal focus group) with timely and supportive feedback from their advisor.
6.) A typical day for our PROMISE intern would start with a check-in with their assigned advisor and
could then include shadowing their advisor through orientation activities, accompanying their
advisor to meetings with OSU and community members, independent research, compiling
resource lists, doing outreach to the cultural centers, etc. Our day tends to run from 8am to 5pm
with a one hour lunch break from 12-1pm.
7.) Competencies gained from this internship would include basic proficiency with Google apps as
well as alternative sites like wordpress; increased understanding of support structures at OSU
and in the surrounding communities; enhanced communication skills, both written and verbal
