Timor-Leste is consid-
ered as the highest Catholic
community in Southeast
Asia because it has more
than 90% of the population
is Catholics. Basically, the
Community of Maubere in
Timor-Leste has three (3)
main beliefs were the reli-
gion, the nature, and the cul-
ture through Church, Sacred
Houses, and Sacred Places.
This is the foundation of
struggling for the communi-
ty of Maubere during twen-
ty-four years under the oc-
cupation of Indonesian gov-
ernment. Therefore, the
contribution of the church,
the nature, and the culture
during the resistance was
incomparable.
The Relationship be-
tween religion and nature;
when analyzing the ways
and reasons people have
thought about the relation-
ships between religion and
nature, it is wise to consid-
er not only the cultural, but
also the environmental con-
text (Baron Taylor, ed.,
2005). Significantly, this
philosophy has been pre-
sented the connection be-
tween the community of
Maubere and environment
as the original belief from
the ancient times till
present days. Based on the
Arsene, G. (2003) about the
human-nature relationship
and the emergence of envi-
ronmental ethics, human-
kind organized its values on
religious beliefs; implicitly,
this was where its ethics
came from. Therefore, the
communities of Maubere
have to consider the reli-
gion and culture as the re-
flection of the natural be-
liefs that cannot be separat-
ed because it is the identity
for the community of Maub-
ere in Timor-Leste.
The relationship be-
tween human and environ-
ment; based on the evolu-
tion of the human-environ-
ment relationship, there is
the real danger that our vi-
sions of the future are be-
coming unconstrained by
knowledge of what has al-
ready occurred, at least in
part because information
about human-environment
interactions in the histori-
cal past has not been well
organized for this purpose
or properly utilized. There-
fore, the communities of
Maubere in Timor-Leste have
to recognize about the hu-
man-environment interaction
in the pasts and the contribu-
tion of the nature to our inde-
pendence.
In corresponding to the
current situation in Timor-
Leste, we had identified that
there is a broken path between
human and the nature. The
community of Maubere have
been practiced a lot of contra-
diction actions or behaviors
against our own principles
during the clandestine peri-
ods. According to the philoso-
phy about the evolution of the
human-environment relation-
ship, if we continue to operate
in ignorance or denial of this
integrated historical under-
standing, we run the very real
risk of mirroring the paths of
our country (Classic Maya or
the Roman Empire, Costanza
et al., 2013). This is as a reflec-
tion to the real condition in
Timor-Leste at this stage
through the environmental
reaction to our society be-
cause we are not friendly any-
more with our own nature.
Consequently, the contradic-
tions of political ideologies
among groups have become
the most powerful in the soci-
ety as an impact on dividing
the community into groups.
Furthermore, Timor-Leste
has to evaluate about the po-
litical situation from the first
government of Timor-Leste till
present days as a case study to
identify the root of the prob-
lems. Basically, there are two
possible problems that the
community of Maubere has to
consider:
First; the nature has been
punished the community of
Maubere through unneces-
sary expenditures of the bud-
get from the Petroleum that
His Excellency President Re-
public of Democratic of
Timor-Leste was concerned
at the swearing ceremony for
the VI Constitutional Gov-
ernment of Timor-Leste, 16
February 2015, (Tempo Sem-
inal RDTL, 2015a). The nature
has been provided us every-
thing and we are exploring its
natural resources without ac-
knowledge its contribution to
the nation. The community of
Maubere has to be appreciat-
ed because the petroleum is
considered as the contribu-
tion from our holy land of

Timor to the community of
Maubere for the develop-
ment after independence.
Second; the political insta-
bility in Timor-Leste lead the
community of Maubere is not
totally enjoy the independence
because of contradicting the
political ideologies among po-
litical leaders has become in-
fluential in the social life.
Therefore, the Acknowl-
edgment is the only solution
at this stage to minimize and
prevent more upcoming
problems in the future. Now,
the community of Maubere
have to realize that our na-
ture is claiming its return as
we had already promised.
Thus, the national acknowl-
edgment ceremony by the
community of Maubere in
Timor-Leste is very impor-
tant at the religious sites, the
natures, and the sacred hous-
es around the country as our
“Confession and Admiration”
for the blessing to get Inde-
pendence because it was not
happened at the first place
after celebrating the indepen-
dence day, 20 May 2002.
Based on the Constitution
of Democratic Republic of
Timor-Leste, Part I about the
Fundamental Principles, sec-
tion 11: Valorization of Resis-
tance:
1. The Democratic Repub-
lic of East Timor acknowledg-
es and values the historical re-
sistance of the Maubere Peo-
ple against foreign domination
and the contribution of all
those who fought for national
independence.
2. The State acknowledges
and values the participation of
the Catholic Church in the pro-
cess of national liberation of
East Timor.
It is clearly stated that
Timor-Leste has strong con-
nection with the religion, but
there was no acknowledge-
ment ceremonies in all reli-
gious sites such as statue of the
Cristo Rei at mountain Fatuca-
ma, statue of the Cristo Rei at
the mountain of Matebian,
statue of the Virgin Marry at
the mountain of Venilale, stat-
ue of the Virgin Marry at the
mountain of Ramelau, and
many more places around the
country.
Moreover, the community
of Maubere have to realize that
the acknowledges and values
for the nature and the sacred
houses have to be included in
our Constitution of Democrat-
ic Republic of Timor-Leste.
Based on the Goucher, Leguin,
Walton, & Themes, 2004, what
these differing views have in
common is an acknowledg-
ment that the relationship be-
tween human society and the
environment, whatever it is, is
fundamental.
During the clandestine
time, the community of Maub-
ere has made a lot of commit-
ments to the religious sites, the
nature, and the sacred houses
around the country and all
communityy of Maubere were
well protected by the holy land
of Timor from enemies to get
the final vision of indepen-
dence. However, the commu-
nity of Maubere has been dis-
regarded after celebrating In-
dependence Day, 20 May
2002.
The main impact; there are
some indications could be
considered seriously by the
community of Maubere,
Timor-Leste that the environ-
ment has been gradually
changed and the social prob-
lem is blooming up as a funda-
mental problem in the society.
Nowadays, the communi-
ties of Maubere have less con-
nection with the nature be-
cause of practicing the con-
tradiction action against our
own nature. There are more
serious cases link with the en-
vironmental and the cultural
problem at some places in
Timor-Leste. There are some
of the sacred places have been
destroyed by the community
of Maubere for the develop-
ment and the economical pur-
poses. Gradually, the igno-
rance attitude has become
stronger by the community of
Maubere in Timor-Leste and
the histories in some sacred
places are going to be van-
ished sooner or later. Ac-
cording to the Goucher, Le-
guin, Walton, & Themes,
2004, the influence of nature
on human societies and the
ways different cultures have
responded to their places in
the natural world are crucial
elements of historical under-
standing and basic to the ways
in which cultures explain their
pasts (Goucher, Leguin, Wal-
ton, & Themes, 2004).
Some examples about the
environmental problem are
presented in the capital Dili
and the Crisco Rei beach. The
Cristo Rei beach is one of the
Religious Touristic Destina-
tion Site which is located at the
one of the most spectacular
view in Timor-Leste. Howev-
er, there was a serious prob-
lem has been discovered that
there is lack of fresh water for
the community and also for the
tourists at this location. This
is putting in the picture that the
environment is not friendly
with the community of Maub-
ere anymore.

gional Development, University of Al-

(tin) Timor-Leste is consid- ered as the highest Catholic community in Southeast Asia because it has more than 90% of the population is Catholics. Basically, the Community of Maubere in Timor-Leste has three (3) main beliefs were the reli- gion, the nature, and the cul- ture through Church, Sacred Houses, and Sacred Places. This is the foundation of struggling for the communi- ty of Maubere during twen- ty-four years under the oc- cupation of Indonesian gov- ernment. Therefore, the contribution of the church, the nature, and the culture during the resistance was incomparable. The Relationship be- tween religion and nature; when analyzing the ways and reasons people have thought about the relation- ships between religion and nature, it is wise to consid- er not only the cultural, but also the environmental con- text (Baron Taylor, ed., 2005). Significantly, this philosophy has been pre- sented the connection be- tween the community of Maubere and environment as the original belief from the ancient times till present days. Based on the Arsene, G. (2003) about the human-nature relationship and the emergence of envi- ronmental ethics, human- kind organized its values on religious beliefs; implicitly, this was where its ethics came from. Therefore, the communities of Maubere have to consider the reli- gion and culture as the re- flection of the natural be- liefs that cannot be separat- ed because it is the identity for the community of Maub- ere in Timor-Leste. The relationship be- tween human and environ- ment; based on the evolu- tion of the human-environ- ment relationship, there is the real danger that our vi- sions of the future are be- coming unconstrained by knowledge of what has al- ready occurred, at least in part because information about human-environment interactions in the histori- cal past has not been well organized for this purpose or properly utilized. There- fore, the communities of Maubere in Timor-Leste have to recognize about the hu- man-environment interaction in the pasts and the contribu- tion of the nature to our inde- pendence. In corresponding to the current situation in Timor- Leste, we had identified that there is a broken path between human and the nature. The community of Maubere have been practiced a lot of contra- diction actions or behaviors against our own principles during the clandestine peri- ods. According to the philoso- phy about the evolution of the human-environment relation- ship, if we continue to operate in ignorance or denial of this integrated historical under- standing, we run the very real risk of mirroring the paths of our country (Classic Maya or the Roman Empire, Costanza et al., 2013). This is as a reflec- tion to the real condition in Timor-Leste at this stage through the environmental reaction to our society be- cause we are not friendly any- more with our own nature. Consequently, the contradic- tions of political ideologies among groups have become the most powerful in the soci- ety as an impact on dividing the community into groups. Furthermore, Timor-Leste has to evaluate about the po- litical situation from the first government of Timor-Leste till present days as a case study to identify the root of the prob- lems. Basically, there are two possible problems that the community of Maubere has to consider: First; the nature has been punished the community of Maubere through unneces- sary expenditures of the bud- get from the Petroleum that His Excellency President Re- public of Democratic of Timor-Leste was concerned at the swearing ceremony for the VI Constitutional Gov- ernment of Timor-Leste, 16 February 2015, (Tempo Sem- inal RDTL, 2015a). The nature has been provided us every- thing and we are exploring its natural resources without ac- knowledge its contribution to the nation. The community of Maubere has to be appreciat- ed because the petroleum is considered as the contribu- tion from our holy land of Kareta Xapa Matrikula Metan Domina Oe-cusse MAP Fahe Cool Box ba Peskador-Vendedores Ikan MDM Tarjeitu 2015 Povu 75 % Asesu Bee Moos Timor to the community of Maubere for the develop- ment after independence. Second; the political insta- bility in Timor-Leste lead the community of Maubere is not totally enjoy the independence because of contradicting the political ideologies among po- litical leaders has become in- fluential in the social life. Therefore, the Acknowl- edgment is the only solution at this stage to minimize and prevent more upcoming problems in the future. Now, the community of Maubere have to realize that our na- ture is claiming its return as we had already promised. Thus, the national acknowl- edgment ceremony by the community of Maubere in Timor-Leste is very impor- tant at the religious sites, the natures, and the sacred hous- es around the country as our “Confession and Admiration” for the blessing to get Inde- pendence because it was not happened at the first place after celebrating the indepen- dence day, 20 May 2002. Based on the Constitution of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Part I about the Fundamental Principles, sec- tion 11: Valorization of Resis- tance: 1. The Democratic Repub- lic of East Timor acknowledg- es and values the historical re- sistance of the Maubere Peo- ple against foreign domination and the contribution of all those who fought for national independence. 2. The State acknowledges and values the participation of the Catholic Church in the pro- cess of national liberation of East Timor. It is clearly stated that Timor-Leste has strong con- nection with the religion, but there was no acknowledge- ment ceremonies in all reli- gious sites such as statue of the Cristo Rei at mountain Fatuca- ma, statue of the Cristo Rei at the mountain of Matebian, statue of the Virgin Marry at the mountain of Venilale, stat- ue of the Virgin Marry at the mountain of Ramelau, and many more places around the country. Moreover, the community of Maubere have to realize that the acknowledges and values for the nature and the sacred houses have to be included in our Constitution of Democrat- ic Republic of Timor-Leste. Based on the Goucher, Leguin, Walton, & Themes, 2004, what these differing views have in common is an acknowledg- ment that the relationship be- tween human society and the environment, whatever it is, is fundamental. During the clandestine time, the community of Maub- ere has made a lot of commit- ments to the religious sites, the nature, and the sacred houses around the country and all communityy of Maubere were well protected by the holy land of Timor from enemies to get the final vision of indepen- dence. However, the commu- nity of Maubere has been dis- regarded after celebrating In- dependence Day, 20 May 2002. The main impact; there are some indications could be considered seriously by the community of Maubere, Timor-Leste that the environ- ment has been gradually changed and the social prob- lem is blooming up as a funda- mental problem in the society. Nowadays, the communi- ties of Maubere have less con- nection with the nature be- cause of practicing the con- tradiction action against our own nature. There are more serious cases link with the en- vironmental and the cultural problem at some places in Timor-Leste. There are some of the sacred places have been destroyed by the community of Maubere for the develop- ment and the economical pur- poses. Gradually, the igno- rance attitude has become stronger by the community of Maubere in Timor-Leste and the histories in some sacred places are going to be van- ished sooner or later. Ac- cording to the Goucher, Le- guin, Walton, & Themes, 2004, the influence of nature on human societies and the ways different cultures have responded to their places in the natural world are crucial elements of historical under- standing and basic to the ways in which cultures explain their pasts (Goucher, Leguin, Wal- ton, & Themes, 2004). Some examples about the environmental problem are presented in the capital Dili and the Crisco Rei beach. The Cristo Rei beach is one of the Religious Touristic Destina- tion Site which is located at the one of the most spectacular view in Timor-Leste. Howev- er, there was a serious prob- lem has been discovered that there is lack of fresh water for the community and also for the tourists at this location. This is putting in the picture that the environment is not friendly with the community of Maub- ere anymore.
