estimated the runoff, precipitation, infiltration or recharge values for a small basin and
projected on large scale. We analysed the available data and suggested some measures for
creation of healthy aquifer systems that can be sustained for usage by many generations to
come.
3. M.Tech Project
Title: "Strategies for Strengthening Environmental Carrying Capacity in Indian Mineral
Sector"
Description: In this paper, study is mainly focus on the mineral rich states Odisha and
Jharkhand because industrial growth of the country largely depends on mineral production.
But the mining areas in the two states are plagued with a host of problems needing urgent
attention of regulatory authorities, mine operators, research and educational institutions. The
Keonjhar and Sundargarh Districts of Odisha and the adjoining West Singhbhum District of
Jharkhand, which are now the prime iron ore suppliers for the country are being subjected to
increasing production pressure It is important at this juncture to review the situation in Joda-
Barbil region of Keonjhar District and Sundargarh District to first revamp certain basics for
environmental up gradation. This report discusses the problem areas of the mines at Odisha
and Jharkhand and possible line of actions by regulators and mine operators for improving
the situation.
