As cities add more housing density in the downtown areas how will the nighttime economy (bars, restaurants, theaters and other night life) be affected? No longer is it just a matter of traffic, noise, parking and safety. Now it's a matter of livability for residents as well. Issues of livability are central to economic and workforce development goals. Civic leaders and those involved in the nighttime economy need to address the needs of all stakeholders. Matt Carmichael, editor of Livability.com talks about how Best Places to Live are ranked and rated and then offers strategies to avoid collisions between residents and businesses as cities move into 24/7 economies.
