1. Engaging young people in
mental health awareness
Dr Lise Hertel
Mental Health Lead, Newham CCG
2. Where the idea came from
Wanted to raise mental health awareness and challenge
stigma amongst young people
Sought to inform young people about CAMHS and what it
offers
Needed to create an environment for young people to share
their stories and experiences about mental health
Seeking a non-stigmatising medium
Utilising previous consultation events – such as Right Here
Newham, NCY.
5. What we achieved
We exceeded the project brief by reaching a national
audience and won the Innovation in Mental Health Award at
the Health Service Journal Awards 2014.
•The campaign was spotlighted on national TV on ITV’s
Good Morning Britain.
•Reprezent listeners were informed about campaign
messages through FM Radio.
•Newham CCG attained a guest slot on the Department of
Health's social care blog. Following this, Newham College
requested our mental health features to aid their students.
•Big White Wall registered an increase in referrals as a
result of the campaign.
