Travel Experience
I discovered my passion for travel late in life. With a degree in Engineering and a job in corporate
America, I thought my path was set. Then my husband and I took an international assignment in a
small town in Germany and we embarked on a new journey.
We were not quite prepared for total cultural immersion, but we gradually settled in. Three and a
half years later, we moved back to the US with a six-month old baby, and memories of European
capitals, castles and churches, cobblestone streets, charming villages, inspiring art, local wine and
beer, skiing in the Alps, and friendships that continue to this day.
We were hooked on travel. When the company asked “how about Japan?” we didn’t hesitate. With
my younger son in the baby backpack, we explored elaborate yet peaceful temples, quaint craft
towns in the hills, and traditional Japanese ryokan. A four-year old wearing a yukata? Hilarious! Try
using chopsticks to feed a child yakisoba. Skiing in Hokkaido, and then a soak in the onsen.
Australia, Thailand, and New Zealand were our favorite destinations. On a trip to the Outback, my
husband said “Why are you taking me to a desert?” Five days later, he did not want to leave – the
landscape is unlike any place on Earth. Our RV trip to Tasmania and Cradle Mountain still ranks as a
‘best ever’ family adventure. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Back in the US for eight years, we haven’t slowed down. Alaska, Oregon and National Parks for
hiking and adventure. New England skiing and snowboarding. Multi-generational trips made sweet
memories on a Caribbean cruise, Disney, and the beaches of Cape Cod and the Carolinas.
What’s next on my travel bucket list? This year – Iceland. Someday, Africa, Antarctica, the
Galapagos Islands, and Israel. And then repeating everything with my kids and grandkids.
Why do I love travel so much? Absolutely the destination and immersion. But I also love researching
and planning that unique, once in a lifetime trip – sight-seeing highlights and undiscovered gems.
Getting off the beaten path, for a deeper, richer experience. Setting a slower pace to breathe and
enjoy. Selecting hotels, restaurants, and tours offering superior quality, service and value.
With travel experience in 40 countries, 40 US states and a passion for travel research, I am uniquely
qualified for a position as travel counsellor, designing unique, custom tours for the discerning
