Editor's Notes
“If you’re hearing my voice, it must be Report Time again. You’re a new teacher here at IAA and you’re busy. Very busy. With assessments, meetings, planning, marking,… The list goes on, and the last thing you have time for is learning (or re-learning) the Report Writing software, GradeQuick. Most times, new software just adds to your frustrations and causes more problems. It doesn’t have to be like this and this short course will bring you through every step you need.”
Before we begin, let’s take a break and…laugh. You are learning new software. But you already know your students. Even harder than learning a new piece of technology is phrasing the report comments just right…
What you’re doing is making a difference to the students in your class. You do so many other things that require real stress; report writing shouldn’t be one of those things. So, here we go. This is GradeQuick and you’ll bet great – quick!
There are five main components teachers need from GradeQuick at report time: how to log in, how to work from home, how to enter marks for English, Maths and IPC, how to enter comments for each of these plus a general comment, and how to enter a mark for effort for each subject. By the end of each of these five sections, you will have the confidence to do this with little worry or doubt.

By the end of each of these five sections, you will have the confidence to do this with little worry or doubt.
From the IAA Sharepoint area, the “Document Centre,” you need to begin by clicking on the “Home” link, which will bring you to “The International Academy - Amman Team Site.” This will be the same for any computer in the school, or from home. Here is where you’ll find the GradeQuick link at the top far right. Click here now and you’ll be brought to the “edline” login page. At the beginning of the school year, you were sent an email from Nisreen Rawashdeh from 8/18/2016 with your login; enter that now and click “sign in.”
Now that you’ve logged in, you’re going to want to install the “GradeQuick plugin” on your laptop so you can work from home. Click here for step-by-step instructions that will help you to install it.
You are now in a new screen. At the far right, do you see “Tools” at the bottom of the gray bar? Click on it and scroll over until you see “Get GradeQuick plugin.” Click on this and it will take you through the steps to install the software. Follow the instructions on the screen, as directed. Once you click “finish,” you are ready to begin compiling your reports!
You’re at home. In comfortable clothes. In a quiet place. Coffee in hand. Ready to start entering marks. Let’s go! GradeQuick is set up so that you enter marks and comments per subject. On one screen you can enter the marks for all of your students per subject and enter or paste the comments for each student, a subject at a time. You can navigate between students with just one click. And remember, there is no need to save or worry about losing your work!
Now you’re back at the main page for IAA GradeQuick. Click on Tools again (like you did to install the plugin) and select Semester 1 “GradeQuick Web.” On the next page (that looks sort of like an Excel spreadsheet), is where you enter the marks. At the top, do you see the “Window” tab? Click here and a drop-down menu of the available subjects will appear. Choose the subject you want to enter marks for first, and click on that subject. There are three reporting periods at IAA. Choose the correct one and manually enter the marks in the box that corresponds to the student’s name. Remember, you are entering marks for one subject at a time. Marks for English, Maths and IPC are on the IAA 1-7 scale; effort marks are between 1 and 3. Your REGs are your PM Reading Levels and your WEGs are the marks calculated in the Excel spreadsheets.
Within each subject (that you choose from the “Windows” tab), you can enter your marks and comments. On one screen you can enter or paste the comments for each student, a subject at a time. You can navigate between students with just one click. And remember, there is no need to save or worry about losing your work!
You can choose to enter the marks first or the comments. When you are ready to enter comments for the subject you chose from the “Windows” tab, look for the “Memo” tab. It’s in the blue bar at the top; it’s the second last icon. Click on this and a window will pop up with options for entry. Click on the first option, “Student Memo.” From here, a window will pop up with a student’s name in the top left corner followed by two arrows. Use these arrows to find the student whose comment you want to enter. Type or paste his or her comment in this box. Remember, your work is saved automatically and all you need to do is use the arrow to find the next student you want to comment on for the subject you chose. Once you have entered comments for all of your students for one subject you can click on the top “Windows” tab and choose another subject to enter comments. No need to save!
You’re at home. In comfortable clothes. In a quiet place. Coffee in hand. Ready to start entering marks. Let’s go! GradeQuick is set up so that you enter marks and comments per subject. You can navigate between students, entering only one subject’s marks and/or comments at a time.
In addition to marks and comments, you need to enter marks for effort. Per term, each student gets an effort mark for each subject. This is a mark between 1 and 3. Enter the number in the column for the current term, beside the appropriate student.
Now that you’ve made your way around GradeQuick, you will be able to do this once you are ready to begin compiling your reports. Be confident that you can follow the steps you just tried out for yourself. You will be able to use GradeQuick only a few times a year, remembering how to login, enter marks and comments. You don’t need to worry about saving anything. That’s automatic. If you remember the five basic components of this software (illustrated on the wheel) you can get all of the sections completed that you need to. There are three basic areas that you will need to enter for each of your students: comments for each main subject, marks and effort for each main subject’s assessments and WEGs and REGS (writing and reading levels). By breaking things down into smaller portions to conquer at one time, this job will seem a bit less of a mountain to climb and more of a wheel that needs to be turned one full rotation before you can look back and realise that you’ve finished!
