3. When I asked Chef Meeru Dhalwala (of Vij’s) what we
aren’t eating but should be, she unequivocally said
‘seeds’. They require less water to produce than nuts,
provide a fantastic flavour and texture, and are cheaper.
Expect to see more pumpkin or sunflower seeds instead of
almonds and pine nuts at Vij’s in the future.

5. Am the only one who wondered what to do with those
greens? So pretty and yet so useless. Or ARE THEY?
Those amazing greens taste fantastic in salads,
pesto's, in stir fried dishes, or topped on a pizza.
Save some money by using some carrot greens
instead of parsley with your dishes.

7. Sure we all enjoy a slice of lemon in our water but
did you know that the Vitamin C is essential for our
absorption of iron?
Next time you have some avocado toast, squeeze
a slice of lime over it. Or make sure your spinach
salad comes with lemonade or lemon juice in the
dressing.

9. I’m partial to these beauties because they grow
all around my city but they’re more than just a
beautiful addition to a salad or a floral note in
your tea.
These edible flowers are a source of magnesium
chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus,
potassium, thiamine, and vitamin C. And they’re
used to treat a variety of ailments.

10. Sesame Seeds

11. Sesame seeds and oil or tahini are a simple way
to get copper, magnesium, calcium plus lots of
other great nutrients.
Plus you can add them to almost anything! My
favourite is to have them sprinkled on my
avocado toast (with some lime juice).
(I know I put seeds twice! But I don’t think of sesame seeds for the same purpose as pumpkin
or sunflower when I’m cooking.)
